Educational Needs Of Families In Turkey<br />

regard to educational needs of families in dimension of communication are re<strong>ve</strong>aled<br />

below based on each theme and related codes.<br />

Most frequently seen communication problems in family were determined as inca-<br />

pability to understand one another deeply, incapability to talk face to face, incapability<br />

to allocate time to one another, differences among generations, deficiency of lo<strong>ve</strong> and<br />

respect, incapability to establish empathy, parents’ discussing with one another before<br />

their children, and cultural and educational difference. In addition, some other cases<br />

expressed by the participants as problems were determined as not being tolerant to one<br />

another, not being patient with one another, educational deficiency within the family,<br />

improper upbringing ways, incapability to express oneself, not being aware of the human<br />

psychology and power struggle.<br />

Behaviours relating to theme of communication mostly emphasized by family<br />

members were determined as capability of family members to express their problems<br />

and demands to one another, not allocating time to listen to one another, incapability<br />

of children to express their expectations and problems to parents easily and incapability<br />

of spouses to express their expectations and problems to one another. Besides, other<br />

behaviours mentioned by the participants were determined as parents’ having difficulty<br />

in establishing communication with child and using me-language instead of using youlanguage.<br />

Things done when there are problems in family is a theme arising at the end of the<br />

interviews with the participants. Accordingly, the most frequently applied behaviours<br />

when there are problems in family are as follows: solving the problem by coming to an<br />

agreement, capability to sol<strong>ve</strong> the problems without turning them into conflicts, incapability<br />

to sol<strong>ve</strong> the problems and conflict, consulting to the experienced people, accepting<br />

and neglecting the problems, postponing the problem, keeping silent to the<br />

problem for a short time and taking the problem on the chin.<br />

Participants thinks that marriage candidates must be educated in the matters of<br />

particularly management of disagreement and listening skills as well as communication<br />

in family, spouses’ communication mistakes likely to upset one another and parent<br />

training.<br />
