one who says to Jerusalem, `You will be inhabited,´ and to the cities of Judea, A `You
will be built,´ and its desert places will spring forth, 27 who says to the abyss, `You will
be deserted, and I will dry up your rivers,´ 28 who says to Cyrus to be intelligent, and
`He will perform all my will,´ who says to Jerusalem, `You will be built, and I will lay
the foundation of my holy house.´"
Isaiah 45
1 The Lord God says this to my Christ, to Cyrus, whose right hand I held so that
nations might listen before him: "I will break through the strength of kings; I will open
doors before him, and cities will not be shut. 2 I will go before you, and I will level
mountains; I will smash bronze doors and break iron bars. 3 I will give you dark
treasures; I will open for you hidden, unseen treasures, so that you may know that I,
the Lord God who calls your name, am the God of Israel. 4 Because of Jacob my servant
and Israel my elect, I will call you by my name B and accept you; you yourself did not
know me. 5 For I am the Lord God; there is no other God beside me. I strengthened
you, C yet you were not acquainted with me, 6 so that those from the rising of the sun
and those from its setting might know that there is no one beside me. I am the Lord
God, and there is no one else. 7 I am the one who fashioned light and made darkness,
the one who makes peace and creates wicked things. D I am the Lord God, the one who
makes all these things.
8 Let heaven be cheerful from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness. Let
the earth cause mercy to spring forth and sprout; let it likewise cause righteousness to
spring forth. I am the Lord who created you.
9 What better thing did I fashion like the clay of the potter? Will the plowman plow
the earth the entire day? Will the clay say to the potter, `What are you doing, since you
are not working, nor do you have hands´? E 10 Who says to the father, `What will you
conceive?´ and to the mother, `With what are you in labor?´" 11 For the Lord God, the
Holy One of Israel who made the upcoming things, says this: "Ask me concerning my
sons and concerning my daughters; command me concerning the works of my hands.
12 I made the earth, and man upon it. I solidified heaven with my hand; I commanded
all the stars. 13 I raised him up to be a king F with righteousness, and all his ways are
upright. He will build my city and will return the captivity of my people, not with
ransoms or with gifts," said the Lord of sabaóth.
14 The Lord of sabaóth says this: "Egypt and the commerce of the Ethiopians
labored; the exalted men of the Sabeans will come over to you, and they will be your
slaves. They will follow after you bound in handcuffs; they will worship you and pray
with regard to you, because God is in you. They will say, `There is no God beside you.
