Ezekiel 16
1 The word of the Lord was directed at me, saying, 2 "Son of man, testify to
Jerusalem concerning her lawless acts. 3 You will say, `Thus says the Lord to Jerusalem:
"Your root and your origin are out of the land of Canaan; your father was an Amorite,
and your mother was a Hittite. 4 As for your origin, on the day you were born, they did
not bind your breasts, and you were not washed in water; A you were not salted with
salt, and you were not wrapped in wrappings. 5 My eye was not sparing regarding you
so as to do for you one of all these things, so as to feel something regarding you. You
were thrown out over the surface of the field in the crookedness of your soul on the
day you were born.
6 I passed over you and saw you wallowing in your blood; I said to you, `Let there
be life out of your blood. 7 Multiply; I have given you just like the growth of the field.´
You multiplied, became great, and entered the cities of cities. Your breasts were
enlarged and your hair grew, but you were naked and ashamed. 8 I passed through you
and saw you, and behold, your season was a season of things being abolished; I spread
my wings over you and covered your shame. I swore to you and entered into a
testament with you," says the Lord, "and you became mine. 9 I washed you in water and
rinsed your blood from you; I anointed you with oil. 10 I clothed you with multicolored
fabrics and clothed you underneath with blue; I girded you with linen and dressed you
with woven hair. 11 I adorned you with ornamentation; I put bracelets around your
hands and a necklace around your neck. 12 I gave an earring around your nostril, hoops
on your ears, and a crown of boasting on your head. 13 You were adorned with gold and
silver; your dress was linen, woven hair, and multicolored fabrics. You ate flour, oil, and
honey; you became exceedingly beautiful. 14 Your name came out among the nations in
your beauty, because it was completed in dignity, in the youthfulness which I arranged
for you," says the Lord.
15 "You trusted in your beauty and engaged in prostitution regarding your name; you
poured out your prostitution over every passerby, which should not be. B 16 You took
some of your garments, made for yourself embroidered idols, and engaged in
prostitution with them. You will not enter, nor will it happen. 17 You took the implements
of your boasting from my gold and from my silver, from what I gave you; you made for
yourself male images and engaged in prostitution by them. 18 You took your
multicolored apparel, dressed them, and placed my oil and my incense before their
face. 19 You took my bread which I gave you (I fed you with flour, oil, and honey) and
placed them before their face as a fragrant aroma; it happened," says the Lord. 20 "You
took your sons and your daughters, whom you conceived, and sacrificed these to them
as expendable, as though you had engaged little in prostitution. 21 You slaughtered your
children and gave them in your expiating by them. 22 This was beyond all your
prostitution; you did not remember the days of your infancy, when you were naked and
ashamed and you lived wallowing in your blood.
