Zechariah 12
1 A statement of the word of the Lord concerning Israel. The Lord, who stretches out
heaven, lays the foundation of earth, and forms the spirit of man within him, says,
2 "Behold, I will place Jerusalem as a shaking threshold for all the surrounding peoples,
and in Judea there will be a siege against Jerusalem. 3 It will be on that day that I will
place Jerusalem as a trampled stone for all the nations. Everyone who tramples on it
will be mocking, and all the nations of the earth will be gathered together against it.
4 On that day," says the almighty Lord, "I will attack every horse with astonishment and
its rider with madness. I will open my eyes over the house of Judah, and I will attack all
the horses of the peoples with blindness. 5 The leaders of a thousand men in Judah will
say in their hearts, `We will find for ourselves those who inhabit Jerusalem with the
almighty Lord their God.´ 6 On that day I will place the leaders of a thousand men in
Judah as a torch of fire among wood and as a lamp of fire among stubble; they will
devour all the surrounding peoples on the right and on the left. Jerusalem will once
more be an inhabitant by herself. 7 The Lord will save the tents of Judah as from the
beginning, so that the boast of the house of David and the elevation of those who
inhabit Jerusalem may not be magnified against Judah. 8 It will be on that day that the
Lord will shield those who inhabit Jerusalem. The one who is weak among them will be
on that day like David, and the house of David will be like the house of God, A like a
messenger of the Lord before them. 9 It will be on that day that I will seek to take out
all the nations which come against Jerusalem.
10 I will pour on the house of David and on those who inhabit Jerusalem a spirit of
grace and sympathy. They will look at me, since they danced triumphantly; they will
engage in mourning over him as over one who is beloved, and they will be filled with
grief as over a firstborn son. 11 On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be magnified
like the mourning for a pomegranate grove which is being cut down in the plain. 12 The
land will mourn according to tribes, each tribe by itself and their women by
themselves, B the tribe of the house of David by itself and their women by themselves,
the tribe of the house of Nathan by itself and their women by themselves, 13 the tribe of
the house of Levi by itself and their women by themselves, the tribe of Simeon by itself
and their women by themselves, 14 all the tribes which have been left behind, each tribe
by itself and their women by themselves.
