was going up, and her maidservants were being led away like doves crying in their
hearts. 9 The waters of Nineveh will be like a pool of water. They fled and did not stand,
and there was no one who was looking on. 10 They plundered the silver, they plundered
the gold, and there was no limit to their adornment; they have been weighed down
with all her coveted vessels. 11 There is shaking off, shaking up, trembling, breaking of
heart, loosening of knees, and pains on every loin; the faces of everyone are like the
scorching of a pot. 12 Where is the residence of the lions and the pasture which is for the
cubs? Where did the lion go, in order that the cub of the lion might enter there, and
there was no one who was scaring it away? 13 The lion seized sufficient things for his
cubs and strangled sufficient things for his lions; he filled his lair with prey and his
residence with plunder. 14 "Behold, I am against you," says the almighty Lord. "I will
burn up your multitude in smoke, and a sword will devour your lions. I will eliminate
your prey from the land, and your actions will no longer be heard."
Nahum 3
1 O city of blood, entirely false, full of unrighteousness: the prey will not be handled.
2 The noise of whips! The noise of rumbling wheels, of a pursuing horse, of a bounding
chariot, 3 of a mounting horseman, of a glittering sword, of gleaming weapons, of a
multitude of wounded, and of heavy falling! There was no limit to her nations; they will
be weak in their bodies 4 due to an abundance of prostitution. She is a beautiful and
gratifying prostitute, leading in sorcery, who sells nations in her prostitution and tribes
in her sorceries. 5 "Behold, I am against you," says the Lord God Almighty. "I will reveal
your backside before your face, and I will show your shame to nations and your
dishonor to kingdoms. 6 I will throw at you an abomination in agreement with your
unclean acts, and I will set you up as an example. 7 It will be that everyone who sees
you will descend from you and say, `Wretched Nineveh, who will moan for her? From
where will I seek comfort for her?´"
8 Prepare a portion; tune a chord. Prepare a portion for Ammon, she who resides in
rivers. Water is around her, whose realm is the sea and whose walls are water.
9 Ethiopia and Egypt is her strength; there is no limit to your flight. The Libyans became
her helpers. 10 She will go as a captive into a deportation, and they will dash her infants
to the ground at the beginnings of all her roads. They will cast lots for all her glorious
things, and all her great men will be bound in handcuffs. 11 You will be drunk, and you
will be overlooked; you will seek stature for yourself from your enemies. 12 All your
fortresses are like fig trees which have guards; if they are shaken, they will fall into the
mouth of the one who eats. 13 Behold, your people are like women among you. The
gates of your land will be opened for your enemies; fire will devour your bars. 14 Draw
for yourself water for a siege, and secure your fortresses. Step on the clay, and let it be
trampled together with the chaff; make it more secure than brick. 15 Fire will devour you
there. A sword will eliminate you; it will devour you like a locust, and you will be
weighed down like a caterpillar. 16 You multiplied your merchandise more than the stars
