him, I will leave it on his land; it will work for him and reside in it.´"´"
12 I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah in agreement with all these words, saying,
"Insert your neck. 14 Work for the king of Babylon, for they are prophesying unrighteous
things to you, 15 for I did not send them forth," says the Lord. "They are prophesying in
my name based on what is unrighteous, so as to destroy you, and you will indeed be
destroyed, as well as your prophets who are prophesying lies to you based on what is
unrighteous. 16 I spoke to you, all this people as well as the priests, saying, `So said the
Lord: "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you, saying,
`Behold, the vessels of the house of the Lord will return from Babylon,´ for they are
prophesying unrighteous things to you; I did not send them forth. 18 If they are
prophets, and if the word of the Lord is among them, let them meet me." 19 For so said
the Lord: "As for the remaining vessels, 20 which the king of Babylon did not take when
he exiled Jeconiah from Jerusalem, 22 they will come into Babylon," says the Lord.´"
Jeremiah 35 A
1 It happened that, in the fourth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fifth month,
Hananiah son of Azzur, the false prophet who was from Gibeon, talked to me in the
house of the Lord, in front of the eyes of the priests and all the people, saying, 2 "So
said the Lord: `I broke the yoke of the king of Babylon. 3 In two more years of days, I
will return to this place the vessels of the house of the Lord, 4 Jeconiah, and the exile of
Judah, for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.´" 5 Jeremiah talked to Hananiah
in front of the eyes of all the people and in front of the eyes of the priests who stood in
the house of the Lord; 6 Jeremiah said, "May the Lord truly do this: may he confirm your
word which you are prophesying, to return the vessels of the house of the Lord and all
the exile from Babylon to this place. 7 Nevertheless, listen to the word of the Lord which
I am saying in your ears and in the ears of all the people. 8 The prophets of old who
were previous to me and previous to you also prophesied for war over a large land and
against great kingdoms. 9 As for the prophet who prophesied for peace, when the word
comes, they will know the prophet whom the Lord sent forth to them in faith."
10 Hananiah took the collars from the neck of Jeremiah in the eyes of all the people and
broke them. 11 Hananiah talked in front of the eyes of all the people, saying, "So said
the Lord: `So will I break the yoke of the king of Babylon from the necks of all the
nations.´" Jeremiah departed on his way.
12 The word of the Lord was directed at Jeremiah after Hananiah broke the collars
from his neck, saying, 13 "Proceed and talk to Hananiah, saying, `So said the Lord: "You
broken wooden collars; I will make iron collars in their place." 14 For so said the Lord: "I
placed an iron yoke on the neck of all the nations so as to work for the king of
Babylon."´" 15 Jeremiah also said to Hananiah, "The Lord did not send you forth; you
caused this people to trust in unrighteousness. 16 Because of this, so said the Lord:
`Behold, I will banish you from the surface of the earth; this year you will die.´" 17 He
died in the seventh month.
