far away, like the dust of chaff when they winnow before the wind and like a tornado
carrying debris in a circle. 14 Toward evening, there will be grief; before morning, it will
be no more. This is the portion of those who plundered you and the inheritance for
those who inherited you.
Isaiah 18
1 Woe to you, O wings of a land of ships beyond the rivers of Ethiopia, 2 the one who
sends forth pledges by sea and paper letters over the water! For swift messengers will
go to an elevated nation and a strange and cruel people. Who is beyond it? A hopeless
and downtrodden nation. 3 Now all the rivers of the land will be like an inhabited
country. Their country will be inhabited as if a signal were raised from a mountain; it
will be audible like the sound of a trumpet. 4 For the Lord said this to me: "There will be
security in my city like the light of midday heat, and it will be like a cloud of dew on a
day of reaping." 5 Before the harvest, whenever the blossom is completed and the
unripe grape blossoms as a unripe blossom, he will take away the little clusters with
sickles; he will take away the small branches and cut them off. 6 He will leave them
together for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth; the birds of heaven will
gather over them, and all the beasts of the earth will arrive over him. 7 In that season,
gifts will be brought to the Lord of sabaóth from an afflicted and plucked people, and
from a people who are great from now on and forever, a hopeful yet downtrodden
nation, which is in a part of a river of its land, as far as the place where the name of
the Lord of sabaóth is invoked, A Mount Zion.
Isaiah 19
1 The vision of Egypt.
Behold, the Lord is sitting on a swift cloud and will arrive in Egypt. The
manufactured things of Egypt will be shaken due to his presence, and their hearts will
be defeated within them. 2 Egyptians will be aroused against Egyptians; a man will make
war against his brother, a man against his neighbor, city against city, and law against
law. 3 The spirit of the Egyptians will be disturbed within them. "I will scatter their
counsel. They will inquire of their gods, their statues, those who sound forth from the
earth, and the ventriloquists. 4 I will deliver Egypt up into the hands of men, harsh lords;
harsh kings will dominate them." Thus says the Lord of sabaóth.
5 The Egyptians will drink water which is beside the sea, but the river will fail and dry
up. 6 The rivers and the canals of the river will fail; every collection of water will dry up,
even in every marsh of reed and papyrus. 7 All the green grass around the river and
everything which is sown by the river will dry up, blasted by wind. 8 The fishermen will
groan, and all who cast a hook into the river will groan; those who cast nets and the
anglers will mourn. 9 Shame will take those who work in fine linen and those who work
in silk. 10 Those who work in them B will be in pain, and everyone who makes beer will be
