I will not hear their petition; if they offer whole burnt offerings and sacrifices, I will not
approve them. For I will terminate them with sword, with famine, and with execution."
13 I said, "O Lord, the one who is, behold, their prophets are prophesying and saying,
`You will not see a sword, nor will a famine be among you, for I will give truth and
peace over the land and in this place.´" 14 The Lord said to me, "The prophets are
prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them forth, I did not command them, and I
did not speak to them. For they are prophesying to you false visions, divinations,
omens, and opinions of their own hearts. 15 Because of this, thus says the Lord
concerning the prophets who are prophesying lies in my name, and I did not send them
forth, who are saying, `Sword and famine will not be over this land´: `They will die in a
grievous execution, and the prophets will be terminated in a famine. 16 The people to
whom they are prophesying will also be thrown into the passageways of Jerusalem due
to the presence of sword and famine; there will be no one who will bury them, not even
their wives, their sons, and their daughters. I will pour out upon them their wicked
acts.´ 17 You will speak this word to them: `Bring down tears over your eyes day and
night. Do not let them cease, for the daughter of my people was crushed by a crushing
and by an exceedingly painful plague. 18 If I come out into the plain, behold, there are
those wounded by the sword, and if I come into the city, behold, there is the distress of
a famine. For priest and prophet went to a land with which they were not acquainted.´"
19 You didn't reject Judah, did you? Your soul didn't stand apart from Zion, did it?
Why did you tease us, and there is no healing for us? We waited for peace, yet there
were no good things; for a season of healing, yet behold, a disturbance! 20 We knew, O
Lord, our sins, the wrongdoings of our fathers, for we sinned before you. 21 Abate on
account of your name; do not destroy the throne of your glory. Remember; do not
break your testament which is with us. 22 There isn't anyone who gives rain among the
idols of the nations, is there? Will heaven give its fullness? Are not you he? We will wait
for you, for you made all these things.
Jeremiah 15
1 The Lord said to me, "If Moses and Samuel stood before my face, my soul would
not be toward them. Dismiss this people, and let them come out. 2 It will be that, if they
say to you, `Where will we come out?´ you will say to them, `Thus says the Lord: "As
many as are for death, they are for death; as many as are for the sword, they are for
the sword; as many as are for famine, they are for famine; as many as are for captivity,
they are for captivity."´ 3 I will exact four types of vengeance on them," says the Lord,
"the sword for slaughter, the dogs for tearing to pieces, and the beasts of the earth and
the birds of heaven for consumption and ruin. 4 I will deliver them up for compulsions by
all the kingdoms of the earth on account of Manasseh son of Hezekiah king of Judah,
concerning everything which he did in Jerusalem. 5 Who will be sparing of you, O
Jerusalem? Who will be afraid of you, or who will return for your peace? 6 You turned
away from me," says the Lord. "You will go back, and I will extend my hand and ruin
you; I will no longer release them. 7 I will scatter them in a scattering. In the gates of
my people they were deprived of children; they destroyed my people on account of
their wicked acts. 8 Their widows were multiplied more than the sand of the sea. I
