them," says the Lord. "I will not spare, and I will not have pity due to their ruin."´"
15 Listen and hear; do not be exalted, for the Lord spoke. 16 Give glory to the Lord
your God before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on dark mountains.
You will wait for light, yet the shadow of death will be there, and they will be placed
into darkness. 17 If you do not listen, your soul will weep secretly due to insolence and
your eyes will let down tears, because the flock of the Lord was shattered. 18 Say to the
king and the potentates, "Be humble and sit down, for your crown of glory was
removed from your heads." 19 The cities which are toward the south were shut, and
there was no one who would open. Judah was exiled; he completed a complete exile.
20 Lift up your eyes, O Jerusalem, and see those who are coming from the north.
Where is the flock which was given to you, the sheep of your glory? 21 What will you say
whenever they inspect you? You taught them lessons for rule over you; won't labor
pains seize you just like a woman giving birth? 22 If you say in your heart, "Why did
these things meet me?" it is because of the abundance of your wrongdoing that your
back parts were revealed, in order for your heels to be made an example of. 23 If an
Ethiopian changes his skin and the leopardess her spots, you will be able to do well
even though you have learned wicked things. 24 "I scattered them like firewood being
carried by the wind into the desert. 25 This is your allotment and the portion of your
being unfaithful to me," says the Lord, "since you forgot me and hoped in lies. 26 I also
will reveal the things which are behind you to your face, and your dishonor will be seen,
27 as well as your adultery, your neighing, and the estrangement of your prostitution; I
have seen your abominations on the hills and in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem,
for you were not cleansed behind me; how much longer will it be?"
Jeremiah 14
1 The word of the Lord was directed at Jeremiah concerning the drought. 2 Judea
mourned; her gates were emptied and darkened over the land. The outcry of Jerusalem
ascended. 3 Her great men sent forth their little ones for water; they came upon wells,
yet did not find water, and returned their vessels empty. 4 The works of the land failed,
because there was no rain. The farmers were ashamed; they covered their heads.
5 Deer gave birth in the field and abandoned them, because there was no vegetation.
6 Wild donkeys stood by the groves; they inhaled the wind. Their eyes failed, because
there was no grass due to an unrighteous people. A
7 Our sins rose up against us, O Lord; act toward us for your own benefit. For our
sins before you are many, for we sinned against you. 8 You are the patience of Israel, O
Lord, and you save in a season of wicked things. Why did you become like a sojourner
on the land, and like a native turning aside for lodging? 9 Will you be like a man who is
sleeping, or like a husband who cannot save? You are among us, O Lord, and your
name has been invoked over us; do not forget us.
10 The Lord us says this to this people: "They loved to move their feet, yet they did
not spare." God did not approve them; now he will remember their wrongdoings. 11 The
Lord said to me, "Do not pray concerning this people for good things. 12 For if they fast,
