you from, and where is your activity from? Out of the earth!´ They chose you as an
abomination.
25 I raised up the one who is from the north and the one who is from the rising of
the sun; they will be called by my name. Let the rulers come; like potter's clay and like
a potter treading clay, so you will be trodden down. 26 For who will declare the things
from the beginning, so that we may know even the previous things, and say that they
are true? There is no one who foretells, nor one who hears your words. 27 I will give the
rule to Zion, and I will comfort Jerusalem in the way. 28 For from the nations, behold,
there was no one; from their idols there was no one who was declaring anything. If I
should ask them, `Where are you from?´ they would not answer me. 29 For they are the
ones who make you, and the ones who deceive you are in vain.
Isaiah 42
1 Jacob is my servant; I will help him. Israel is my chosen one; my soul accepted
him. I put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. 2 He will not
shout or let loose; his voice will not be heard outside. 3 He will not break a bruised reed,
and he will not extinguish a smoldering wick, but will bring forth justice in truth. 4 He will
blaze forth, and will not be crushed until he sets up justice on the earth. Nations will
hope in his name."
5 The Lord God, who made heaven and constructed it, who established the earth and
the things in it and gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk on it,
says this: 6 "I, the Lord God, called you in righteousness, and I will take hold of your
hand and strengthen you. I gave you as a testament of the race, as a light of the
nations, 7 to open the eyes of the blind, to bring those who are bound out of chains and
those who sit in darkness out of the prison house.
8 I am the Lord God; this is my name. I will not give my glory to another or my
virtues to carvings. 9 Behold, the things from the beginning have come back, and also
new things which I am announcing; before they sprang up, A they were displayed to
you."
10 Sing a new hymn to the Lord, you who constitute his realm; glorify his name from
the end of the earth, you who go down to the sea and sail on it, you islands and those
who reside on them. 11 Be cheerful, you desert and its towns, the estates and those who
reside in Kedar. Those who reside on a cliff will be cheerful; they will shout from the
tops of the mountains. 12 They will give glory to God; they will announce his virtues
among the islands. 13 The Lord God of forces will come out and cause war to break out;
he will stir up zeal and shout at his enemies with strength: 14 "I was silent, yet I will not
always be silent and hold myself back, will I? I endured like a woman giving birth; I will
lose consciousness and dry up at once. B 15 I will turn rivers into islands and will dry up
marshes. 16 I will lead the blind by a way which they did not know, and I will cause them
to walk on paths with which they were not acquainted. I will turn the darkness into light
for them and the crooked things into a straight line. I will do these things, and will not
A before they sprang up A ¦ before I announced them VS
B SA ¦ + 15 I will make mountains and hills desolate and will dry up all their vegetation. V
