able to rescue them on the day of the Lord's wrath. By the fire of his zeal, all the earth
will be consumed. For he will achieve completion and speed for all those who reside on
the earth.
Zephaniah 2
1 Be gathered and bound together, O undisciplined nation, 2 before you become like a
flower which passes away, before the wrath of the Lord comes upon you, before the
day of the Lord's anger comes upon you. 3 Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth.
Carry out justice, seek righteousness, and reply to these things, so that you may be
protected on the day of the Lord's wrath.
4 For Gaza will be plundered, Ashkelon will exist for obliteration, Ashdod will be
jettisoned at noon, and Ekron will be uprooted. 5 Woe to those who reside on the parcel
by the sea, sojourners from the Cretans! The word of the Lord is against you, O
Canaan, land of the Philistines; I will destroy you out of your residence. 6 Crete will be a
pasture for flocks and a pen for sheep. 7 The parcel by the sea will be for the remnants
of the house of Judah. They will graze on it among the houses of Ashkelon. In the
evening they will lie down due to the presence of the sons of Judah, because the Lord
their God supervised them and returned their captivity.
8 I heard the reproaches by Moab and the mistreatments by the sons of Ammon,
among whom they reproached my people and magnified themselves against my
borders. 9 Because of this, as I live," says the Lord of forces, the God of Israel, "Moab
will be like Sodom, the sons of Ammon like Gomorrah, and Damascus failed like a pile
of salt and obliterated forever. The remnants of my people will plunder them, and the
remnants of my nation will inherit them. 10 They will have this instead of their pride,
because they reproached and magnified themselves against the almighty Lord. 11 The
Lord will appear over them and destroy all the gods of the nations of the earth. Each
one from his place, all the islands of the nations, will worship him.
12 You Ethiopians are also wounded by my sword. 13 He will extend his hand against
the north and destroy the Assyrian; he will set up Nineveh for obliteration, waterless
like a desert. 14 Flocks and all the wild animals of the earth will graze in her midst.
Chameleons and hedgehogs will feed in her haylofts. Wild animals will make noise in
her holes, as well as ravens in her gates, because her elevation was like a cedar. 15 This
is the contemptible city which resides in hope, which says in her heart, `I am it, and
there is no longer any after me.´ How she became an obliteration, a pasture for wild
animals! Everyone who goes by her will whistle and wave his hand.
Zephaniah 3
1 O, the conspicuous and redeemed city! 2 The dove did not listen to the voice; she
did not accept discipline. She did not trust in the Lord, and did not draw near to her
God. 3 Her rulers within her are like roaring lions. Her judges are like wolves of Arabia;
they did not leave until morning. 4 Her prophets are possessed, A men full of disdain. Her
