prophesy against this house and against this city all these words which you heard.
13 Now make your ways and your works better; listen to the voice of the Lord your God,
and the Lord will cease from the wicked things which he spoke against you. 14 Behold, I
am in your hands. Do to me as is beneficial and as is better for you. 15 But know that if
you slay me, you will be issuing innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city and
those who reside in it, for in truth the Lord sent me forth to you to speak all these
words in your ears."
16 The rulers and all the people said to the priests and the false prophets, "A verdict
of death is not for this man, because he spoke to us in the name of the Lord our God."
17 Men from the elders of the land arose and said to all the congregation of the people,
18 "Micah the Moreshethite was in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; he said to all the
people of Judah, `The Lord said this: "Zion will be plowed like a field; Jerusalem will
become impassable, A and the mountain of the house will become a grove of the
forest."´ 19 Did Hezekiah and all Judah slay him? Was it not that they feared the Lord
and that they petitioned the face of the Lord, and the Lord ceased from the wicked
things which he spoke against them? We did great wicked things against our souls."
20 There was a man prophesying in the name of the Lord, Uriah son of Shemaiah
from Kiriath-jearim; he prophesied concerning this land according to all the words of
Jeremiah. 21 King Jehoiakim and all the rulers heard all his words, and they sought to kill
him; Uriah heard of it and entered Egypt. 22 The king sent forth men to Egypt; 23 they
brought him from there, and they brought him to the king. He struck him with a sword
and threw him into the tomb of the sons of his people. 24 Nevertheless the hand of
Ahikam son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so as not to deliver him up to the hands of
the people, so as not to slay him.
Jeremiah 34 B
2 So said the Lord: "Make bonds and collars and place them around your neck. 3 You
will send them forth to the king of Idumea, to the king of Moab, to the king of the sons
of Ammon, to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hands of their
messengers who are coming to meet them at Jerusalem with Zedekiah king of Judah.
4 You will order them to say to their lords, `So said the Lord God of Israel: "So will you
say to your lords: 5 `I made the land by my great strength and by my upraised arm, and
I will give it to whomever it seems appropriate in my eyes. 6 I gave the land to
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in order to serve him, and the beasts of the field in
order to work for him. 8 As for the nation and kingdom, as many as do not submit their
neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will inspect them with a sword and with
famine,´ said the Lord, `until they cease by his hand. 9 Do not listen to your false
prophets, those who practice divination for you, those who interpret dreams for you,
your omens, and your sorcerers, who say, "You will not work for the king of Babylon."
10 For they are prophesying lies to you in order to take you far from your land. 11 As for
the nation which inserts its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and works for
A impassable VS ¦ a gardener's hut A
