man of you defiles his neighbor; will you inherit the land in this way?"´ A 27 Because of
this, say to them, `Thus says the Lord, the Lord: "As I live, surely those who are in the
deserted places will fall by the sword, those who are on the surface of the plain will be
given as food to the beasts of the field, and I will kill with disease those who are in the
walled places and those who are in the caves. 28 I will give the land as a desert, and the
insolence of its strength will perish; the mountains of Israel will be deserted on account
of there being no traveler. 29 They will know that I am the Lord; I will make their land a
desert, and it will be deserted on account of all their abominations which they
performed."´
30 Son of man, the sons of your people are those who speak concerning you beside
the walls and on the porches of the houses. A man speaks to his brother, saying, `Let
us come together and hear the things which are going out from the Lord.´ 31 They come
to you as a people goes together; they sit in front of you and hear your words, yet they
will not perform them, for a lie is in their mouths and their hearts are after defilements.
32 You are to them like a sound of a sweet, well-tuned harp; they will hear your words,
yet they will not perform them. 33 Whenever it comes, they will say, `Behold, it has
arrived!´ They will know that a prophet was in their midst."
Ezekiel 34
1 The word of the Lord was directed at me, saying, 2 "Son of man, prophesy against
the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say to the shepherds, `Thus says the Lord, the
Lord: "O shepherds of Israel, shepherds don't feed themselves, do they? Don't the
shepherds feed the sheep? 3 Behold, you consume the milk, clothe yourselves with the
wool, and slaughter the ample, yet you do not feed my sheep. 4 You did not strengthen
what has been weakened, and you did not revive what was ill; you did not bind up
what has been broken, and you did not return what was wandering; you did not seek
what was lost, and you subdued with hardship what was strong. 5 My sheep were
scattered because there were no shepherds, and they became food for all the beasts of
the field. 6 My sheep were scattered on every mountain and on every high hill; they
were scattered over the surface of all the earth, and there was no one who would seek
them out or turn them back."´"
7 Because of this, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord. 8 "As I live," says the
Lord God, "surely in return for my sheep becoming prey and my sheep becoming food
for all the beasts of the plain while there were no shepherds, the shepherds did not
seek out my sheep, and the shepherds fed themselves but did not feed my sheep. 9 In
return for this, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord. B 10 Thus says the Lord, the
Lord: `Behold, I am against the shepherds. I will seek out my sheep from their hands,
and will turn them back so as not to shepherd my sheep; the shepherds will no longer
feed them. I will rescue my sheep out of their mouths, and they will no longer be food
