21 Establish yourself, O Zion; execute vengeance. Give your heart to your shoulders.
Return by the way which you traveled, O virgin of Israel; return grieving to your cities.
22 How long, O dishonored daughter, will you turn away? For the Lord created salvation
for a new plantation; men will go about in salvation.
23 The Lord said this: "They will still speak this word in the land of Judah and in his
cities whenever I return his captivity: `Blessed be the Lord on his righteous holy
mountain!´ 24 Those who reside in the cities of Judah and in all his land A will be together
with the farmer, and he will be extolled among the flock. 25 For I intoxicated every
thirsting soul and filled every hungering soul. 26 Because of this I woke up and looked;
my sleep was sweet to me.
27 Because of this, behold, days are coming," says the Lord, "and I will sow the
house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and the seed of livestock.
28 It will be that, as I watched over them to pull down and to afflict, so I will watch over
them to build and to plant," says the Lord. 29 "In those days they should not say, `The
fathers ate an unripe grape, and the teeth of the children were set on edge.´ 30 On the
contrary, each will die in his own sin, and the teeth of the one who eats the unripe
grape will be set on edge.
31 Behold, days are coming," says the Lord, "and I will make for the house of Israel
and for the house of Judah a new testament, 32 not according to the testament which I
made for their fathers in the day when I took hold of their hand to bring them out of
the land of Egypt. For they did not remain in my testament, and I disregarded them,"
says the Lord. 33 "For this is the testament which I will make for the house of Israel after
those days," says the Lord. "I will give my laws into their minds and write them on their
hearts; I will be God for them, and they will be a people for me. B 34 Each of them will
not teach his fellow citizen and each his brother, C saying, `Know the Lord,´ for they will
all be acquainted with me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be
merciful with regard to their wrongdoings, and I will no longer remember their sins.
35 If heaven is raised in midair," says the Lord, "and if the ground of the earth
beneath is lowered, I will not reject the race of Israel," says the Lord, "regarding
everything which they did." D 36 The Lord, who gives the sun for light of the day, the
moon and the stars for light of the night, and a shouting in the sea (he caused its
waves to roar; the almighty Lord is his name), said this: 37 "If these laws cease from my
presence," says the Lord, "the race of Israel will cease to be a nation in my presence
for all the days.
38 Behold, days are coming," says the Lord, "and the city will be built for the Lord
from the tower of Hananel to the gate of the corner. 39 Its measurement will come out
in front of them as far as the hills of Gareb, and it will be encompassed in a circle of
