Ezekiel 3
1 He said to me, "Son of man, eat this scroll, and go and speak to the sons of Israel."
2 He opened my mouth and fed me the scroll. 3 He said to me, "Son of man, your mouth
will eat and your belly will be filled with this scroll which has been given to you." I ate
it, and in my mouth it was like sweet honey.
4 He said to me, "Son of man, proceed; come in to the house of Israel and speak my
words to them. 5 For you are being sent forth to the house of Israel, not to a people of
hard lip and hard tongue, 6 nor to many peoples of other speech or other tongues, or
who are stubborn in tongue, whose words you will not hear. If I had sent you forth to
such as these, they would have listened to you. 7 But the house of Israel will not be
willing to listen to you, for they do not wish to listen to me, for all the house of Israel
are contentious and hardhearted. 8 Behold, I have granted your face to be powerful
against their faces, and I will strengthen your argument against their arguments. 9 It will
continually be mightier than a cliff; do not be afraid of them or be scared due to their
faces, for it is a provoking house." 10 He also said to me, "Son of man, receive into your
heart and hear with your ears all the words which I have spoken with you. 11 Proceed;
come into the captivity, to the sons of your people; you will speak to them and say to
them, `Thus says the Lord,´ whether they hear or whether they fall short."
12 The Spirit took me up, and I heard behind me the sound of a great earthquake:
"Blessed be the glory of the Lord from his place." 13 I beheld the sound of the wings of
the animals flapping one against the other; the sound of the wheels and the sound of
the earthquake was close to them. 14 The Spirit lifted me and took me up, and I went
elevated in the impulse of my spirit; the hand of the Lord was mighty upon me. 15 I
came elevated into the captivity and went around those who resided by the River
Chebar who were there. I sat there for seven days, dwelling in their midst.
16 After the seven days, the word of the Lord was directed at me, saying, 17 "Son of
man, I have given you as a watchman for the house of Israel; you will hear a word
from my mouth and will threaten them from me. 18 When I say to the lawless person,
`You will be put to death,´ and you did not warn him or speak in order to warn the
lawless person to turn away from his ways in order for him to live, that lawless person
will die in his wrongdoing, and I will demand his blood from your hand. 19 If you warn
the lawless person, and he does not turn away from his lawlessness and his way, that
lawless person will die in his wrongdoing, yet you will deliver your soul. 20 When a
righteous person turns away from his acts of righteousness and performs a trespass,
and I give torment to his face, he will die because you did not warn him. He will die in
his sins, because his acts of righteousness which he performed will not be remembered,
and I will demand his blood from your hand. 21 But if you warn the righteous person not
to sin and he does not sin, the righteous person will live because you warned him, and
you will deliver your own soul."
22 The hand of the Lord was upon me; he said to me, "Arise and come out into the
plain, and there it will be spoken to you." 23 I arose and came out into the plain, and
behold, the glory of the Lord stood there, according to the vision and according to the
glory which I saw by the River Chebar, and I fell on my face. 24 The Spirit came upon
