its features were prominent. It stood before your face, and its appearance was
fearsome. 32 The head of the image was of pure gold, its hands, chest, and arms were
silver, its belly and thighs were bronze, 33 its legs were iron, its feet were partly iron and
partly clay. 34 You kept watching until a stone was cut, not by hand, from a mountain. It
struck the image on its iron and clay feet and completely disintegrated them. 35 Then at
once the clay, the iron, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were disintegrated and
became like dust from a threshing floor in summer. A large amount of breeze carried
them away, and no place was found for them. The stone which struck the image
became a large mountain, and it filled all the earth.
36 This is the dream; we will tell its interpretation in the presence of the king. 37 You,
O king, are the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven gave a strong, mighty, and
honorable kingdom. 38 In every place where the sons of men reside, he gave in your
hand the beasts of the field and the birds of heaven; A he installed you as lord of
everything. You are the gold head. 39 After you another kingdom will rise, one inferior to
you. B There will also be a third kingdom, which is the bronze, which will have dominion
over all the earth. 40 There will also be a fourth kingdom, as strong as iron; as iron
disintegrates and overpowers everything, so it will disintegrate and overpower
everything. 41 For you saw the feet and the toes, partly clay and partly iron; the
kingdom will be divided, and some of the root of iron will be in it, just as you saw the
iron mixed with clay. 42 The toes of the feet are partly iron and partly clay; part of the
kingdom will be strong, and some of it will be shattered. 43 For you saw the iron mixed
with clay; they will be mixed together among the seed of men, yet this one will not be
joined with that one, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44 In the days of those kings,
the God of heaven will raise up a kingdom which will never be ruined; his kingdom will
not be abandoned to another people. It will disintegrate and scatter all the kingdoms,
and it will stand up forever, 45 just as you saw that a stone was cut, not by hand, from a
mountain, and it disintegrated the clay, the iron, the bronze, the silver, and the gold.
The great God made known to the king the things which must happen after this. The
dream is true, and its interpretation is trustworthy."
46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and worshiped Daniel; he said to offer
him manna C and fragrant substances. 47 The king replied to Daniel, "In truth your God is
the God of gods, the Lord of kings, D and the revealer of secrets, for you were able to
reveal this secret." 48 The king magnified Daniel, and gave him great and numerous
gifts. He installed him over all the province of Babylon and as ruler of the satraps above
all the wise men of Babylon. 49 Daniel made a request of the king, and he installed
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the works of the province of Babylon. Daniel
was in the courtyard of the king.
