are provoked with Ahaz your father? They will not eat and they will not drink; it is
better for you to perform judgment and excellent righteousness. 16 They did not know;
they did not execute justice for one who is humble or the justice of one who is poor.
Isn't this your not knowing me?´ says the Lord. 17 `Behold, neither your eyes nor your
heart are excellent, but are for your greed, for innocent blood in order to shed it, for
injustice, and for murder in order to do it.´ 18 Because of this, thus says the Lord
concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah: `Woe concerning this man! They
will not mourn for him ("Oh, brother!") or weep for him ("Alas, O lord!"). 19 He will be
buried with the burial of a donkey; he will be carried off and cast beyond the gate of
Jerusalem.
20 Go up to Lebanon and shout; issue your voice to Bashan and cry out to the other
side of the sea, for all your paramours were crushed. 21 I spoke to you during your
trespass, yet you said, "I will not listen." This was your way from your youth; you did
not listen to my voice. 22 The wind will shepherd all your shepherds and your paramours
will come out into captivity, for then you will be ashamed and dishonored away from all
who befriended you. 23 She who resides in Lebanon, who makes her nest in the cedars,
you will groan when pains as of a woman giving birth come to you.
24 As I live,´ says the Lord, `if Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were a seal
on my right hand, from there I would pluck you. 25 I will deliver you up into the hands of
those who are seeking your soul, into the hands of the Chaldeans before whose face
you are intimidated. 26 I will cast out you and your mother who gave birth to you into a
land where you were not born, and there you will die. 27 They will not return to the land
concerning which they made a vow in their souls. 28 Jeconiah was dishonored as a
vessel which has no use, for he was cast forth and thrown out into a land with which he
was not acquainted. 29 O land, O land, hear the word of the Lord. 30 Write this man as an
outcast person, for a man sitting on the throne of David as a ruler in Judah will never
again grow up from his seed.´
Jeremiah 23
1 Woe to the shepherds who scatter and destroy the sheep of their pasture! 2 Because
of this, thus says the Lord against those who shepherd my people: `You scattered my
sheep and banished them; you did not supervise them. Behold, I will take vengeance
on you in agreement with your evil habits. 3 I will admit the remnants of my people from
every land where I banished them, and I will station them in their pasture; they will
increase and be multiplied. 4 I will raise up shepherds for them who will shepherd them,
and they will no longer be afraid or scared,´ says the Lord.
5 `Behold, days are coming,´ says the Lord, `and I will raise up for David a righteous
branch. A king will reign and understand, and he will execute judgment and
righteousness on the earth. 6 In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will dwell
securely. This is his name which the Lord will call him among the prophets:
Jozadak.´"´ A
