astonished, and also the soul of his people, as a tree in a forest is shaken by a breeze.
3 The Lord said to Isaiah, "Come out to meet Ahaz, you and the abandoned Jashub
your son, at the pool of the upper road of the fuller's field. 4 You will say to him, `Keep
quiet and do not be afraid; do not let your soul be weakened due to these two smoking
torch handles. For whenever my furious wrath occurs, I will heal again. 5 Since the son
of Aram and the son of Remaliah offered an evil counsel concerning you, saying, 6 "We
will go up to Judea, and by conferring with them we will turn them toward us and cause
the son of Tabeel to reign over it," 7 thus says the Lord of sabaóth: "This counsel will
not remain, neither will it come to pass. 8 On the contrary, the head of Aram is
Damascus; A on the contrary, within sixty-five more years the kingdom of Ephraim will
fail as a people. 9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son
of Remaliah." If you do not believe, neither will you understand.´"
10 The Lord again spoke to Ahaz, saying, 11 "Ask for a sign for yourself from the Lord
your God, in the depth or in the height." 12 Ahaz said, "I will not ask, neither will I test
the Lord." 13 He said, "Now listen, O house of David: it is no little thing for you to
propose a contest with men, is it? So how do you propose a contest with the Lord?
14 Because of this, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin will be
pregnant and will give birth to a son, and you will call B his name Immanuel. 15 He will
eat butter and honey. Before he knows or prefers evil things, he will choose what is
good. 16 For before the child knows what is good or wicked, he will refuse evil in order to
choose what is good, and the land which you are afraid of due to the two kings will be
abandoned. 17 Moreover, God will bring upon you, upon your people, and upon the
house of your father, days which have never been present since the day Ephraim
separated the king of the Assyrians from Judah. C
18 It will be on that day that the Lord will whistle for flies, which will reign over a part
of the river of Egypt, and for the bee, which is in the land of the Assyrians. 19 They will
all enter and rest in the valleys of the land, in the holes of the cliffs, in the caves, in
every ravine, and in every tree. 20 On that day the Lord will shave the head with a large
and lubricated razor, D which is beyond the river of the king of the Assyrians; he will
remove both the hairs of the feet and the beard. 21 It will be on that day that a man will
nurture a calf of the cattle and two sheep, 22 and it will be that, due to the abundance of
milk they produce, everyone who is abandoned on the land will eat butter and honey.
23 It will be on that day that every place, wherever there will be a thousand vines for a
thousand shekels, will be for wasteland and for the thorn plant. 24 They will enter there
with arrow and bow, for all the earth will be wasteland and thorn plants. 25 Every
ploughed mountain will be ploughed, and fear will not approach there. For it will be
away from the wasteland and thorn plants for the feeding of a sheep and the trampling
of an ox."
