holy one descending from heaven, and he said, `Pluck the tree and ruin it; only leave
the growth of its roots in the earth, with an iron and bronze band. It will lodge in the
greenery outside and in the dew of heaven, and its portion will be with wild beasts until
seven seasons are changed for it.´ 24 This is its interpretation, O king, and it is a
judgment of the Most High which reached over my lord the king. 25 They will chase you
away from men, and your residence will be with wild beasts; they will feed you grass
like an ox, and you will lodge by the dew of heaven. Seven seasons will be altered for
you, until you know that the Most High dominates the kingdom of men, and will give it
to whomever he pleases. 26 Because they said, `Leave the growth of the roots of the
tree,´ your kingdom will remain for you from whenever you know the heavenly
authority. 27 Because of this, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you; redeem your
sins by acts of mercy and your wrongdoings by sympathies for the poor. Perhaps God
will be patient with regard to your trespasses."
28 All these things reached over Nebuchadnezzar the king. 29 After the twelve month,
as he was walking in the sanctuary of the king in Babylon, 30 the king replied and said,
"Is this not Babylon the great, which I built as a house of the kingdom in the might of
my strength, for the honor of my glory?" 31 While the word was still in the mouth of the
king, there was a voice from heaven: "To you, King Nebuchadnezzar, they say, `The
kingdom departed from you!´ 32 They will chase you away from men, and your
residence will be with wild beasts; they will feed you grass like an ox. Seven seasons
will be altered for you, until you know that the Most High dominates the kingdom of
men, and will give it to whomever he pleases." 33 In the same hour, the word was
fulfilled for Nebuchadnezzar; he was chased away from men and ate grass like an ox.
His body was bathed by the dew of heaven, until his hair became great like that of lions
and his nails like those of birds.
34 "After the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, directed my eyes up to heaven,
and my senses returned to me. I blessed the Most High, and I praised and glorified the
one who lives forever, for his authority is an eternal authority, and his kingdom is for
generation after generation. 35 All those who reside on the earth were reckoned as
nothing; he acts according to his will in the force of heaven and in the residence of the
earth. There is no one who will act against his hand and say to him, `What did you
do?´ 36 On the same occasion my senses returned to me, and I came into the honor of
my kingdom. My form returned to me, and my princes and my great men sought me. I
was became mighty over my kingdom, and more abundant greatness was added to me.
37 So now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, greatly exalt, and glorify the king of heaven, for all
his works are true and his paths are justice. He is able to humiliate all who walk in
arrogance."
Daniel 5
1 Belshazzar the king made a great supper for his thousand great men, and there
was wine in front of the thousand. 2 While he was drinking, during the tasting of the
wine, Belshazzar said to bring the gold and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his
father brought out of the sanctuary which was in Jerusalem, "and let the king, his great
men, his concubines, and his consorts drink with them." 3 The gold and silver vessels
