abandon them. 17 But they turned back; be filled with shame, you who trust in carvings,
who say to molten objects, `You are our gods.´
18 Listen, you deaf; lift up your eyes to see, you blind! 19 Who is blind but my
servants, and deaf but those who exercise dominion over them? The slaves of God have
been blinded. 20 Often you have seen yet did not observe; your ears were open yet you
did not hear." 21 The Lord God wished to be justified, and to magnify praise. 22 I saw that
the people had been plundered and ravaged, for there is a trap in the storerooms
everywhere and in the houses as well, where they hid them. They became plunder;
there was no one who would rescue the prey, and there was no one would say, "Give it
back!" 23 Who among you who hears these things will listen to the things to come?
24 Who gave Jacob to be a prey, and Israel to those who plunder it? Was it not God,
against whom they sinned? They did not wish to walk in his ways or listen to his law.
25 He brought upon them his furious wrath, and the war and those who set fires around
1 Now the Lord God says this, the one who made you, O Jacob, the one who formed
you, O Israel: "Do not be afraid, for I redeemed you. I called you by your name; you
are mine. 2 If you pass through water, I am with you; the rivers will not overwhelm you.
If you come through fire, you will not be burned; the flame will not burn you. 3 For I am
the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, who saves you. I made Egypt, Ethiopia, and
Syene A your reward on your behalf. 4 Since you became precious in my sight, you were
glorified, and I loved you. I will give many men on your behalf and rulers on behalf of
your head. 5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bring your seed from the east,
and will gather you from the west. 6 I will say to the north, `Bring forth,´ and to the
from the ends of the earth, 7 all those who have been called by my name.´ For in my
glory I equipped him, formed him, and made him.
8 I brought forth a blind people; their eyes are blind in a similar way, and they have
deaf ears. 9 All the nations were gathered together, and rulers will be gathered out of
them. Who will declare these things, or who will declare to you the things from the
beginning? Let them bring their witnesses and be justified; let them hear and tell B the
truth. 10 Become my witnesses; I too am a witness," says the Lord God, "as well as the
servant whom I chose, so that you may know, believe, and understand that I am he.
Before me there was no other God, and after me there will be none. 11 I am God, and
besides me there is no one who saves. 12 I declared, and I saved; I reproached, and
there was no stranger among you. You are my witnesses; I too am a witness," says the
Lord God. 13 "Even from the beginning, there has been no one who rescues out of my
hands. I will act, and who will overturn it?"
14 The Lord God says this, the one who redeems you, the Holy One of Israel:
"Because of you I will send forth to Babylon, and I will arouse all who are fleeing; the
