NAHUM 1
1 A statement about Nineveh; a document of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2 God is zealous, and the Lord takes vengeance with fury. The Lord takes vengeance
on his opponents, and he removes his enemies. 3 The Lord is patient, and his strength is
great; the Lord will not consider them innocent. His way is connected to termination
and commotion, and clouds are the dust of his feet. 4 He threatens the sea and dries it
up, and causes all the rivers to be deserted. The land of Bashan and Carmel were
diminished, and the blooming things of Lebanon failed. 5 The mountains quaked due to
him, the hills shook, and the land recoiled due to his presence, the entirety of it and all
who reside in it. 6 Who will withstand the presence of his anger? Who will resist the
wrath of his fury? His fury melts realms, and the cliffs were broken up due to him. 7 The
Lord is kind to those who wait for him on a day of oppression; he knows those who
have reverence for him. 8 With the flood of a passage, he will cause the termination of
those who rise up; darkness will pursue his enemies. 9 Why do you plan against the
Lord? He himself will cause the termination; he will not take vengeance by oppression
twice in the same place. 10 For it will be made barren even to their foundation, and it will
be consumed like twisted briar and like fully dried straw. 11 Out of you will come a plan
against the Lord, planning evil things which are in opposition. 12 Thus says the Lord who
rules over many waters: "In this way they will be dispelled, and the report of you will
no longer be heard. 13 Now I will shatter his rod from you, and I will break through your
bonds." 14 The Lord will command concerning you, "Nothing of your name will be
dispersed any longer. I will eliminate the carvings and the molten objects from the
house of your god; I will set up your grave, for they are fleeting."
Nahum 2 A
1 Behold on the mountains the feet of the one who preaches good news and reports
peace! O Judah, celebrate your festivals; pay your vows, for they will no longer
continue to arrive at you in old age. It has been terminated; it has been removed. 2 One
who was rescued from oppression has ascended and breathed into your face. Watch
the road; control the loins; be exceedingly brave with strength! 3 For the Lord turned
away the insolence of Jacob just like the insolence of Israel, for they shook them off as
well as their branches.
4 They ruined the weapons of their dominance which originate from people, powerful
men playing with fire. On the day of his preparation, the reins of their chariots and the
horsemen will be thrown into confusion 5 on the roads, and the chariots will collide and
become entangled in the streets. Their appearance is like lamps of fire and like lightning
flashes. 6 Their great men will remember and flee by day, and they will be weak in their
journey; they will hurry over the walls and prepare their outposts. 7 The gates of the
