earthborn, and you made for yourself a name, as this day. 21 You brought your people
Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, with wonders, with a mighty hand, with a
high arm, and with great sights. 22 You gave them this land, which you swore to their
fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey. 23 They entered and took it, yet they did not
listen to your voice and did not go by your ordinances; they did nothing which you
commanded them, and they made all these wicked things happen to them. 24 Behold, a
crowd arrived at the city to capture it; the city was given into the hands of the
Chaldeans who were battling it, due to the presence of sword and famine. As you
spoke, so it happened. 25 You are saying to me, `Acquire for yourself a field for silver,
and I wrote a scroll, sealed it, and took the testimony of witnesses.´ The city was given
into the hands of the Chaldeans."
26 The word of the Lord was directed at me, saying, 27 "I am the Lord God of all flesh;
will anything be hidden from me?" 28 Because of this, so said the Lord God of Israel:
"This city will be delivered up into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will take it.
29 The Chaldeans will arrive, battling against this city; they will burn this city with fire
and burn down the houses in which they burned incense on their roofs to Baal and
poured libations to other gods in order to provoke me. 30 For the sons of Israel and the
sons of Judah alone were performing what is evil before my eyes from their youth.
31 For this city was on my wrath and on my anger, from the day they built it until this
day, so as to remove it from my presence, 32 because of all the evils of the sons of Israel
and Judah which they performed to provoke me, they, their kings, their rulers, their
priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and those who reside in Jerusalem. 33 They
turned to me the back and not the face; I taught and taught them at dawn, yet they
did not listen so as to receive discipline. 34 By their unclean acts, they placed their
pollutions in the house over which my name was invoked. 35 They built platforms for
Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, in order to offer up their sons and
their daughters to Moloch the king, which things I did not arrange for them. It did not
ascend over my heart to perform this abomination, so as to cause Judah to sin."
36 And now, so said the Lord God of Israel concerning this city, regarding which you
say, "It will be delivered up into the hands of the king of Babylon by sword, by famine,
and by banishment": 37 "Behold, I am gathering them out of all the land where I
dispersed them in my wrath, my anger, and great exasperation; I will return them to
this place and cause them to sit in confidence. 38 They will be a people for me, and I will
be God for them. 39 I will give them another way and another heart in order to fear me
for all the days, resulting in good for them and their children after them. 40 I will make
for them an eternal testament which I will not turn away from them; I will give my fear
into their heart in order for them not to stand apart from me. 41 I will make an
inspection in order to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in faith, in every
heart and in every soul." 42 For so said the Lord: "Just as I brought over this people all
these great wicked things, so I will bring over them all the good things which I spoke
over them. 43 Fields will still be acquired in the land, regarding which you say, `It will be
inaccessible, away from men and livestock; they were delivered up into the hands of
the Chaldeans.´ 44 They will acquire fields with silver, and you will write a scroll, seal it,
and take the testimony of witnesses in the land of Benjamin, around Jerusalem, in the
