ight of the house while the man went in; the cloud filled the inner courtyard. 4 The
glory of the Lord departed from the cherubim to the atrium of the house; the cloud
filled the house, and the courtyard was filled with the brightness of the glory of the
Lord. 5 The sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer courtyard
as the voice of the God (Shaddai) A speaking. 6 It happened that, when he commanded
the man who was clothed with the holy robe, saying, "Take fire from the midst of the
wheels from the midst of the cherubim," he entered and stood next to the wheels. 7 He B
extended his hand into the midst of the fire which was in the midst of the cherubim,
took it, and gave it into the hands of the one who was clothed with the holy robe. He
took it and came out.
8 I saw the cherubim, the likeness of the hands of men underneath their wings. 9 I
looked, and behold, four wheels stood next to the cherubim, one wheel next to one
cherub. C The appearance of the wheels was like the appearance of a garnet stone. 10 As
for their appearance, there was one likeness for the four, in such a manner as
whenever a wheel is in the midst of a wheel. 11 When they went, they went in their four
parts. They did not turn when they went, for into whichever place the first element
looked, they went; they did not turn when they went. 12 Their backs, their hands, and
their wings and wheels were full of eyes all around in their four wheels. 13 The surname
Galgal D was given to these wheels as I listened. E 15 The cherubim were this animal F
which I saw at the River Chebar. 16 When the cherubim went, the wheels went, and
these were next to them. When the cherubim lifted up their wings to elevate from the
earth, their wheels did not turn. G 17 When the former stood, the latter stood; when the
former elevated, the latter elevated with them, because the spirit of life was in them.
18 The glory of the Lord came out from the house H and mounted up over the cherubim.
19 The cherubim took up their wings and elevated from the earth in my sight. When they
came out, the wheels were next to them, and they stood at the threshold of the front
gate of the house of the Lord; the glory of the God of Israel was upon them from
above. 20 This is the animal which I saw under the God of Israel at the River Chebar; I
knew that they were cherubim. 21 Each one had four faces, and each one had eight
wings; the likeness of the hands of a man was underneath their wings. 22 As for the
semblance of their faces, these are the faces which I saw under the glory of the God of
Israel by the River Chebar; each of them was going in front of them.
