of Judah, in order for none of you to be left, 8 in provoking me with the works of your
hands, in burning incense for other gods in the land of Egypt, which you entered to
reside there, so that you might be cut off and so that you might become a curse and a
reproach among all the nations of the earth? 9 Did you forget the wicked things of your
fathers, the wicked things of the kings of Judah, the wicked things of your rulers, and
the wicked things of your wives, which they performed in the land of Judah and outside
of Jerusalem? 10 They did not cease until this day, and they did not adhere to my
ordinances, which I gave in front of their fathers.´
11 Because of this, so said the Lord: `Behold, I am setting my face 12 to destroy all
the remnants which are in Egypt. They will fall by the sword and by famine, from the
small to the great. They will be for reproach, for destruction, and for a curse. 13 I will
make an inspection of those who settled in the land of Egypt as I made an inspection of
Jerusalem: with sword, with famine, and with execution. 14 None of those remaining in
Judah who are sojourning in the land of Egypt will be saved in order to return to the
land of Judah, regarding which they are hoping in their souls to return there. They will
not return, except for those who escape.´"
15 All the men who knew that their wives were burning incense for other gods, all the
women (a great congregation), and all the people who settled in the land of Egypt, in
Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, 16 "As for the word which you spoke to us in the
name of the Lord, we will not listen to you. 17 For we will perform every word which will
come out of our mouth in order to burn incense for the queen of heaven and to offer
libations to her, just as we, our fathers, our kings, and our rulers did in the cities of
Judah and outside of Jerusalem. We were filled with bread, we became prosperous, and
we did not see wicked things. 18 Yet since we discontinued burning incense for the
queen of heaven, all of us were diminished, and by sword and by famine we suffered
failure. 19 For we burned incense for the queen of heaven and offered libations to her;
we didn't make cakes for her and offer libations to her without our husbands, did we?"
20 Jeremiah said to all the people, the powerful men, the women, and all the people
who answered him with these words, saying, 21 "Didn't the Lord remember the incense
which you, your fathers, your kings, your rulers, and the people of the land burned in
the cities of Judah and outside of Jerusalem? Didn't it ascend over his heart? 22 The Lord
could no longer endure you due to the presence of the evil of your acts, due to the
presence of the abominations which you performed. Your land became a desolation, an
inaccessible place, and a curse, as on this day, 23 due to the presence of the incense
which you burned and due to the presence of the sins which you committed against the
Lord. You did not listen to the voice of the Lord and did not go by his ordinances, by his
law, and by his testimonies; these wicked things seized you." 24 Jeremiah also said to
the people and the women, "Hear the word of the Lord. 25 So said the Lord God of
Israel: `You women spoke with your mouth and fulfilled with your hands, saying, "We
will perform our confessions which we confessed, so as to burn incense for the queen
of heaven and to offer libations to her." You remained in and performed your
confessions.´ 26 Because of this, hear the word of the Lord, all Judah, you who settled in
the land of Egypt: `Behold, I swore by my great name,´ said the Lord. `My name
surely will no longer be in the mouth of all Judah so as to say over all the land of Egypt,
