7 My heart broke within me; all my bones were shaken. I became like a broken man
and like a person constrained due to wine, due to the presence of the Lord and due to
the presence of dignity of his glory. A 8 For due to the presence of these things, the land
mourned; the pastures of the desert dried up. Their course became evil, and so also
their strength. 9 For priest and prophet were defiled; I saw their evils in my house.
10 Because of this, let their way result in stumbling in the dark for them; they will trip
and fall in it, for I will bring wicked things upon them in the year of their visitation.
11 Among the prophets of Samaria I saw lawless acts; they prophesied through Baal and
deceived my people Israel. 12 Among the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen horrible
things: people committing adultery, walking in lies, and assisting the hands of many B so
that each might not turn away from his evil way. They all became for me like Sodom,
and those who resided in it just like Gomorrah. 13 Because of this, thus says the Lord:
`Behold, I will feed them pain and give them bitter water to drink, for from the
prophets of Jerusalem defilement came out to all the earth.´
14 So says the almighty Lord: `Do not listen to the words of the prophets, for they
are making a vain vision for themselves; they are speaking from their hearts and not
from the mouth of the Lord. 15 They are saying to those who reject the word of the
Lord, "There will be peace for you." To all who walk by their desires, to everyone who
walks by the deception of his heart, they said, "Wicked things will not come upon you."
16 For who stood in the support of the Lord and saw his word? Who heard and listened?
17 Behold, there is an earthquake from the Lord, and wrath goes out resulting in a
quaking; it will condense and come upon the ungodly. 18 The fury of the Lord will no
longer return until he produces it and until he establishes it from the undertaking of his
heart; at the end of the days they will understand these things. 19 I did not send forth
the prophets, yet they themselves ran; I did not speak to them, yet they themselves
prophesied. 20 If they had stood in my support and listened to my words, they would
have turned my people away from their evil habits. 21 I am a God nearby,´ says the
Lord, `and not a God far away. 22 Will a man be hidden in secret places, and I not see
him? Do I not fill heaven and earth?´ says the Lord. 23 `I heard the things which the
prophets are speaking; they are prophesying lies in my name, saying, "I dreamed a
dream." 24 How long will these things be in the hearts of the prophets, who prophesy
lies even when they prophesy the desires of their hearts, 25 who reckon that they may
forget my law in their dreams which each one described to his neighbor, just as their
fathers forgot my name in connection with Baal? 26 The prophet in whom there is a
dream, let him describe his dream, and in whom there is my word to him, let him
describe my word in truth. What is the chaff to the grain? So are my words,´ says the
Lord. 27 `Aren’t my words like fire, and like a chisel cutting rock? 28 Because of this,
behold, I am against the prophets,´ says the Lord God, `each of whom steals my
words from his neighbor. 29 Behold, I am against the prophets who put forth prophecies
of the tongue and lull themselves to sleep. 30 Behold, I am against the prophets who
prophesy false dreams; they described them and deceived my people with their lies and
