verdict with the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. 2 Hear, you hills, the verdict
of the Lord, as well as you valleys, the foundations of the earth. For the Lord has a
verdict against his people and will dispute with Israel. 3 My people, what did I do to you,
or how did I give you grief, or how did I annoy you? Answer me! 4 For I brought you up
out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, and I sent out
before your face Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. 5 My people, now remember how Balak king
of Moab received advice against you, and how Balaam son of Beor answered him from
the reeds to Gilgal, so that the righteousness of the Lord might be known."
6 With what will I reach the Lord, and lay hold of my God Most High? Surely I will not
reach him by whole burnt offerings, by year old calves; 7 surely the Lord will not accept
thousands of rams, or ten thousands of fat goats; A surely I will not give my firstborn for
ungodliness, the fruit of my abdomen on behalf of the sin of my soul. 8 Surely it was
reported to you, O man, what is excellent, or what the Lord seeks from you: nothing
other than to perform justice, and to love mercy, and to be prepared to go with the
Lord your God.
9 The voice of the Lord will be invoked in the city, and he will save those who fear his
name. Hear, O tribe! Who will adorn the city? 10 Is there not a fire, and the house of the
lawless one laying up lawless treasures, and wrongdoing accompanied by pride?
11 Surely the lawless one will not be justified by the balance, nor deceitful weights by the
bag. 12 By these, they accumulated the wealth of their ungodliness. Those who reside in
her were speaking lies, and their tongues were exalted in their mouths. 13 I myself will
begin to attack you; I will obliterate you on account of your sins. 14 You will eat and not
be filled. It will grow dark in you, and he will move away. You will not escape, and as
many as do escape will be delivered up to the sword. 15 You will plant, yet you will not
harvest; you will press olives, yet you will not be anointed with olive oil, and also wine,
yet you will not drink. The regulations of my people will be obliterated. 16 You preserved
the decrees of Zimri B and all the actions of the house of Ahab. You walked in their
councils, so that I might deliver you up to obliteration and those who reside in her to
hissing. You will receive the reproaches of the peoples.
Micah 7
1 Alas for me, for I became like one who gathers straw during a harvest, and like one
who gathers gleanings during a vintage, when there is no cluster to eat as the first
fruits. Alas for me, my soul! 2 For the reverent person perished from the earth, and
there is no one among men who sets things straight. They all go to court for
bloodshed; each one oppresses his neighbor. 3 They prepare their hands for what is
wicked. The ruler requests, and the judge speaks words of peace; it is the dominant
thought of his soul. 4 I will take away their good things like a devouring moth, and like
¦ the word of the Lord. The Lord said ¦ the word. The Lord, the Lord said V
B Zimri reigned for seven days over the northern kingdom, from the assassination by
him of King Elah to his suicide when he was attacked by Omri, Ahab's father (3 Kgdms.
