your dead are not dead from battle. 3 All your rulers have fled, those who were seized
have been harshly bound, and those who were strong in you have fled far away.
4 Because of this, I said, "Leave me; I will weep bitterly. Do not encourage anyone to
comfort me over the ruin of the daughter of my race." 5 For it is a day of disturbance,
destruction, and trampling, a wandering from the Lord of sabaóth in the valley of Zion.
They wander from the least to the greatest; they wander on the mountains. 6 The
Elamites took quivers; there were men mounted on horses and a congregation of the
battle line. 7 It will be that your choice valleys will be filled with chariots, and horsemen
will block your gates. 8 They will uncover the gates of Judah, and on that day they will
look in the choice houses of the city. 9 They will uncover the secret places of the houses
of the citadel of David. They saw that they were many, that they turned the water of
the ancient pool into the city, 10 and that they pulled down the houses of Jerusalem in
order to fortify the wall for the city. 11 You produced water for yourselves between the
two walls, further inside than the ancient pool, yet you did not look to the one who
made it from the beginning, and you did not see the one who created it.
12 On that day the Lord of sabaóth summoned weeping, mourning, shaving, and
girding with sackcloth, 13 but they produced cheerfulness and gladness, slaughtering
calves and sacrificing sheep so as to eat meat and drink wine, saying, "Let us eat and
drink, for tomorrow we die." 14 These things have been revealed in the ears of the Lord
of sabaóth, for this sin will not be forgiven you until you die.
15 Thus says the Lord of sabaóth: "Go into the priestly chamber, to Shebna the
treasurer, and say to him, 16 `Why are you here? What is here for you that you cut for
yourself a tomb here, made for yourself a tomb on high, and wrote for yourself a
dwelling in the cliff? 17 Now behold, the Lord of sabaóth will drive out and wipe out such
a man. He will take away your robe 18 and your glorious crown, and will throw you into a
great and unmeasured land; there you will die. He will set your beautiful chariot in
dishonor and the house of your ruler in trampling. 19 You will be removed from your
management and from your station. 20 It will be on that day that I will summon my
servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah. 21 I will put on him your robe, I will give him your crown,
and I will give your might and management into his hands. He will be like a father to
those who reside in Jerusalem and those who reside in Judah. 22 I will give him the glory
of David; he will rule, and there will be no one who will contradict. I will give him the
key of the house of David upon his shoulder. He will open, and there will be no one
who will shut; he will shut, and there will be no one who will open. A 23 I will install him
as a ruler in a faithful place, and he will be on the throne of glory of the house of his
father. 24 Everyone who is glorious in the house of his father will trust in him, from the
least to the greatest; they will depend on him. 25 On that day (thus says the Lord of
sabaóth) the man who is fixed in a faithful place will be moved and will fall. The glory
A I will give him the key of the house of David upon his shoulder. He will open, and
there will be no one who will shut; he will shut, and there will be no one who will open.
no one who will open. ¦ He will shut, and there will be no one who will open. V ¦ ~
