moment. Look at us now, for we are all your people. 9 The city of your Holy One became
a desert; Zion became like a desert, Jerusalem as a curse. 10 The house, our holy place,
and the glory which our fathers blessed, was burned with fire, and all our glorious
things fell. 11 On the basis of all these things, O Lord, you gave up; you were silent, and
you humbled us exceedingly.
Isaiah 65
1 "I became manifest to those who did not seek me; I was found by those who did
not ask for me. I said, `Behold, I am here!´ to the nation which did not call my name.
2 I stretched out my hands the entire day to a distrusting and contradicting people, who
did not walk on the true way, A but after their sins. 3 This is the people which provokes
me continually in my presence; they sacrifice in the gardens and burn incense on the
bricks to the demons, which do not exist. 4 In the tombs and in the caves they lie down
on account of dreams. They eat meat from pigs and the sauce of sacrifices; all their
vessels have been defiled. 5 They say, `Depart from me; do not come near me, for I am
clean.´ This is the smoke of my fury; a fire burns in it every day. 6 Behold, it has been
written in my sight; I will not be silent until I pay back into their laps 7 the sins of them
and their fathers," says the Lord, "who burned incense on the mountains and
reproached me on the hills. I will pay back their works into their laps."
8 The Lord says this: "In the manner that a grape will be found in a cluster, and they
will say, `Do not spoil it, for a blessing B is in it,´ so I will do on account of the one who
serves me; on his account I will not destroy everyone. 9 I will lead forth the seed which
is from Jacob and from Judah, and they will inherit my holy mountain. My chosen ones
and my slaves will inherit it, and they will reside there. 10 There will be pens of flocks in
the forest, and the valley of Achor will be a resting place of herds for my people who
sought me. 11 You who abandoned me and forgot my holy mountain, who are preparing
a table for a demon and filling a mixed drink for Fortune, 12 I will deliver you up to a
sword; all of you will fall in a slaughter. For I called you, yet you did not respond; I
spoke, yet you refused to hear. You did what is evil before me, and chose the things
which I did not want."
13 Because of this, thus says the Lord: "Behold, the ones who serve me will eat, but
you will be hungry. Behold, the ones who serve me will drink, but you will be thirsty.
Behold, the ones who serve me will be cheerful, but you will be ashamed. 14 Behold, the
ones who serve me will be glad in cheerfulness, but you will shout because of the
sorrow of your hearts and will howl due to the vexation of your spirit. 15 For you will
abandon your name, resulting in satisfaction for my chosen ones, and the Lord will
annihilate you, but a new name will be summoned for the ones who serve him, C 16 which
will be blessed on the earth. For they will bless the true God, and those who swear on
the earth will swear by the true God. For they will forget their former oppression; it will
