8 Because of this, behold, I am fencing her way in with a palisade; I will wall up her
ways, and she will not find her path. 9 She will pursue her paramours and will not
overtake them; she will seek them and will not find them. She will say, `I will go and
return to my former husband, for then it was better for me than now.´ 10 She did not
know that I have given grain, wine, and oil to her, and I multiplied silver for her.
Instead, she made silver and gold items for Baal. 11 Because of this, I will return and
carry away my grain in its hour and my wine in its season. I will remove my garments
and my linens so as not to cover her nakedness. 12 Now I will reveal her uncleanness
before her paramours, and no one will rescue her out of my hand. 13 I will overturn all
her good cheer: her festivals, her new moons, her sabbaths, and all her feasts. 14 I will
obliterate her vineyard and her fig trees, the things of which she said, `These are my
wages which my paramours gave me.´ I will set them up as a testimony, and the
beasts of the field, the birds of heaven, and the creeping things of the earth will devour
them. 15 I will avenge on her the days of the Baalim, on which she sacrificed to them,
put on her earrings and her necklaces, went after her paramours, and forgot me," says
the Lord.
16 "Because of this, behold, I will cause her to wander, and I will array her like a
desert. I will speak over her heart, 17 and I will give her possessions to her from there,
including the valley of Achor, to open her understanding. She will be humiliated there
according to the days of her infancy and according to the days of her coming up out of
the land of Egypt.
18 It will be on that day," says the Lord, "that she will call me `My husband,´ and will
no longer call me Baalim. 19 I will take the names of the Baalim out of her mouth, and
their names will no longer be remembered. 20 I will make for them on that day a
testament with the beasts of the field, with the birds of heaven, and with the creeping
things of the earth. I will break the bow, the sword, and the battle from the earth, and
I will cause you to reside in hope. 21 I will betroth you to myself forever. I will betroth
you to myself in righteousness, in justice, in mercy, and in compassions; 22 I will betroth
you to myself in faith, and you will recognize the Lord.
23 It will be on that day," says the Lord, "that I will listen to heaven, heaven will
listen to the earth, 24 and the earth will listen to the grain, the wine, and the oil, and
they will listen to Jezreel. 25 I will plant her for myself on the earth; I will show mercy to

1 The Lord said to me, "Go again and love a woman who loves evil things, an
adulteress, just as God loves the sons of Israel. They look up to strange gods, and they
