and I will turn you back by the way on which you came.
30 This will be the sign for you: eat this year what you sowed and in the second year
what is left, and in the third, sow, reap, plant vineyards, and eat their fruit. 31 Those
who are left in Judea will put forth a root downward and produce a seed upward, 32 for
those who are left will come out of Jerusalem and those who are being saved out of
Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of sabaóth will perform these things."´ 33 Because of
this, so says the Lord against the king of the Assyrians: `He will not enter this city, or
throw a weapon against it, or hurl a shield against it, or place a palisade around it.
34 Instead, by the way which he came, on it he will be turned back;´ A thus says the
Lord. 35 `I will defend this city to save it, on account of me and on account of David my
servant.´"
36 The messenger of the Lord came out and slew one hundred eighty-five thousand
from the camp of the Assyrians. They arose in the morning and found all the dead
bodies. 37 The king of the Assyrians B turned back and went away, and resided in
Nineveh. 38 While he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch, his patron deity,
Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons attacked him with swords; they escaped into
Armenia. Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.
Isaiah 38
1 It happened in that season that Hezekiah was sick to death. Isaiah son of Amos,
the prophet, came to him and said to him, "Thus says the Lord: `Make arrangements
concerning your house, for you are dying and will not live.´" 2 Hezekiah turned his face
to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 saying, "Remember, O Lord, how I went in your
sight with truth, in a true heart, and did what was pleasing in your sight." Hezekiah
wept with great weeping. 4 The word of the Lord was directed at Isaiah, saying, 5 "Go
and say to Hezekiah, `Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: "I heard the
sound of your prayer and saw your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your time.
6 I will save you out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians, and I will place a shield
over this city. 7 This will be the sign for you from the Lord that God will do this thing:
8 behold, I will turn the shadow of the steps, which the sun went down, on the ten steps
of the house of your father; I will turn the sun back on the ten steps."´" The sun went
up on the ten steps on which the shadow went down.
9 The prayer of Hezekiah king of Judea, when he was sick and arose from his
sickness. 10 "I said, `In the height of my days, in the gates of Hades, I will leave behind
the remaining years.´ 11 I said, `I will no longer see the salvation of God C on the earth.
I will no longer see a man 12 from my relatives; I left the rest of my life. It came out and
went away from me like one who takes a tent down after pitching it. My spirit within me
became like the loom of a weaver, when she draws near to trim off. On that day I was
delivered up 13 until morning as to a lion. In this way he broke my bones, for I was
delivered up from day until night. 14 Like a swallow, so I will sound forth, and like a
