to reside as in your beginning, and I will treat you well just as in your former times; you
will know that I am the Lord. 12 I will conceive men over you, my people Israel. They will
inherit you, and you will be a possession for them; you will no longer continue to be
childless apart from them." 13 Thus says the Lord, the Lord: "In return for this, they said
to you, `You are devouring men and have become childless by your nation.´ 14 Because
of this, you will no longer eat men, and you will no longer make your nation childless,"
says the Lord, the Lord. 15 "The dishonor of nations will no longer be heard against you,
and you will no longer endure the reproaches of peoples," says the Lord, the Lord.´"
16 The word of the Lord was directed at me, saying, 17 "Son of man, the house of
Israel resided on their land and defiled it with their way, with their idols, and with their
unclean acts; their way before my face became like the uncleanness of a woman who
was sitting apart. 18 I poured out my fury on them; A 19 I dispersed them into the nations
and scattered them into the countries. I judged them according to their way and
according to their sin. 20 They entered the nations where they entered, and they
profaned my holy name while it was said of them, `These are the people of the Lord,
and they came out of his land.´ 21 I spared them because of my holy name, which the
house of Israel profaned among the nations where they entered.
22 Because of this, say to the house of Israel, `Thus says the Lord: "I am not doing
this for you, O house of Israel, but because of my holy name, which you profaned
among the nations where you entered. 23 I will sanctify my great name, which was
profaned among the nations, which you profaned in their midst. The nations will know
that I am the Lord when I am sanctified among you in their eyes. 24 I will take you out
of the nations, collect you out of all the lands, and bring you into your land. 25 I will
sprinkle on you clean water; you will be cleansed from all your unclean acts and from
all your idols, and I will cleanse you. 26 I will give you a new heart, and I will give a new
spirit among you; I will take away the stone heart out of your flesh, and I will give you
a fleshly heart. 27 I will give my Spirit among you, and I will make it so that you may
walk in my righteous decrees and preserve and perform my judgments. 28 You will
reside on the land which I gave to your fathers; you will be a people for me, and I will
be a God for you. 29 I will save you from all your unclean acts; I will summon the grain
and multiply it, and will not give a famine over you. 30 I will multiply the fruit of the trees
and the produce of the field, so that you may not receive the reproach of a famine
among the nations. 31 You will remember your evil ways and your habits which were not
good, and in their presence you will be vexed by your lawless acts and on the basis of
your abominations. 32 I am not doing this because of you," says the Lord, the Lord. "It
will be made known to you; be ashamed and turn back from your ways, O house of
Israel."
33 Thus says the Lord, the Lord God: "On the day on which I will cleanse you from all
your lawless acts, I will also cause the cities to be inhabited, and the deserted places
will be built. 34 The obliterated land will be cultivated instead of being obliterated in the
eyes of everyone who passes by. 35 They will say, `That obliterated land became like a
