the dirt of your feet. You will know that I am the Lord, and you A will not be ashamed."
24 Will someone take spoils from a giant? If someone should capture unjustly, will he be
saved? 25 The Lord says this: "If someone should capture a giant, he will take spoils, and
the one who takes from the one who is strong will be saved. I will judge your case, and
I will deliver your sons. 26 Those who oppressed you will eat their own flesh; they will
drink their own blood like fresh wine and become intoxicated. All flesh will perceive that
I am the Lord who delivered you and who protects the strength of Jacob."
Isaiah 50
1 The Lord says this: "What is your mother's document of separation, by which I sent
her away? Or for what debt have I sold you? Behold, you were sold for your sins; I sent
your mother away for your lawless acts. 2 Why is it that I came, and there was no man?
I called, and there was no one who responded. Is my hand not strong enough to
deliver? Am I not strong enough to rescue? Behold, I will cause the sea to be deserted
by my threatening; B I will turn rivers into deserts. Their fish will dry up due to there
being no water, and they will die in thirst. 3 I will clothe heaven with darkness, and I will
make its covering like sackcloth."
4 The Lord is giving me a disciplined tongue to know at the appropriate time when it
is necessary to say a word. He set me up in the morning; he added an ear to me in
order to hear. 5 The discipline of the Lord opens my ears; I do not distrust or contradict.
6 I have given my back to whips and my cheeks to slaps; I did not turn my face away
from the shame of spittings. 7 The Lord became my helper; because of this, I was not
disgraced, but I set my face like a solid rock and knew that I would not be ashamed.
8 For the one who declared me righteous is near; who is the one judges me? Let him
oppose me right now. Who is the one who judges me? Let him come near me. 9 Behold,
the Lord is helping me; who will harm me? Behold, all of you will grow old like a
garment, and something like a moth will consume you.
10 Who among you is the one who fears the Lord? Let him hear the voice of his
servant. You who walk in darkness and have no light, trust in the name of the Lord and
lean on God. 11 Behold, all of you; light a fire and strengthen a flame. Walk by the light
of your fire, and by the flame which you kindled. These things happened to you
because of me; you will lie down in sorrow.
Isaiah 51
1 "Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord. Look at the
solid rock which you quarried, and at the hole of the pit which you dug. 2 Look at
Abraham your father and at Sarah who labored with you. For he was just one, and I
called him, blessed him, loved him, and multiplied him. 3 Now I will comfort you, O Zion;
I comforted all her deserted places. I will make her deserted places like a paradise, and
