Lebanon, of those which are high and lofty, upon every oak tree of Bashan, 14 upon
every mountain, upon every high hill, 15 upon every high tower, upon every high wall,
16 upon every ship of the sea, upon every display of fine ships. 17 Every man will be
brought low, and the height of men will fall. The Lord alone will be exalted on that day.
18 They will hide all things made by hands 19 by carrying them into the caves, into the
fissures of the cliffs, and into the caverns of the earth due to the fear of the Lord and
on account of the glory of his strength, when he rises to shatter the earth. 20 For on that
day a man will throw out his silver and gold abominations, which they made to worship,
to worthless creatures and to bats, 21 so that they might go into the caverns of solid
rock and into the fissures of the cliffs due to the fear of the Lord and on account of the
glory of his strength, when he arises to shatter the earth. A
Isaiah 3
1 Now look, the Master, the Lord of sabaóth, will take away from Judea and from
Jerusalem the strong man and the strong woman, the strength of bread and the
strength of water, 2 the giant, the strong man, the military man, the judge, the prophet,
the prognosticator, the elder, 3 the captain of fifty, the wonderful counselor, the wise
architect, and the intelligent pupil. 4 I will set up young men as their leaders, and
mockers will have dominion over them. 5 The people will fall, man against man, a man
against his neighbor. The child will attack the old man, and the dishonorable the
honorable. 6 For a man will lay hold of his brother as one of the household of his father
and say, "You have clothing; be our leader, and let my food be under your control." 7 He
will answer on that day, "I will not be your leader, for there is neither bread nor
clothing in my house. I will not be the leader of this people." 8 For Jerusalem was
neglected and Judea has fallen. Their tongues are accompanied by lawlessness; they
distrust the things pertaining to the Lord. For now their glory has been humiliated, 9 and
the shame of their faces stands against them. They announced their sin like Sodom;
they made it clear. Woe to their souls, for they have offered an evil counsel against
themselves. 10 They said, "Let us bind the one who is righteous, for he is bothersome to
us." Accordingly, they will eat the fruits of their works. 11 Woe to the one who is lawless;
evil things will happen to him in agreement with the works of his hands. 12 O my people,
your collectors are picking you clean, and those who make demands are dominating
you. O my people, those who call you fortunate lead you astray and disturb the path of
your feet.
13 But now the Lord will make arrangements for judgment; he will cause his people
stand for judgment. 14 The Lord himself will enter into judgment with the elders of the
people and with its rulers: "Why did you set my vineyard on fire? Why is the plunder of
the one who is poor in your houses? 15 Why do you harm my people and shame the
faces of the poor?" B
16 Thus says the Lord: "Because the daughters of Zion were exalted and walked with
