Jerusalem. 20 Just as silver, brass, iron, tin, and lead are admitted into the midst of a
furnace to blow fire into it in order to be melted, so I will admit you in my wrath, and I
will gather and melt you. 21 I will blow on you in the fire of my wrath, and you will be
melted in its midst. 22 In the manner that silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so
you will be melted in its midst, and you will recognize that I the Lord poured out my
fury on you."´"
23 The word of the Lord was directed at me, saying, 24 "Son of man, say to her, `You
are the land on which it did not shower, neither was there any rain over you on the day
of wrath. 25 Her governors in her midst are like roaring lions seizing prey, devouring
souls by domination, and taking honors by wrongdoing; your widows were multiplied in
your midst. 26 Her priests canceled my law and profaned my holy things. They were not
distinguishing between the holy and the profane, and they were not distinguishing
between the unclean and the clean. They hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I was
profaned in their midst. 27 Her rulers in her midst are like ravenous wolves in pouring out
blood, so that they may acquire excess gain. 28 Her prophets who anoint them will fall,
those who see vain things, who divine lies, who say, "Thus says the Lord," and the Lord
has not spoken, 29 who squash the people of the land with wrongdoing, who engage in
plunderings, who overpower one who is poor and needy, and who not behave with
justice toward the guest. 30 I sought from them a man who was behaving correctly and
standing before my face perfectly in the season of the earth A so as not to wipe her out
completely, yet I did not find him. 31 I poured out my fury on her in the fire of my wrath
in order to complete it. I have given their ways onto their heads,´ says the Lord God."
Ezekiel 23
1 The word of the Lord was directed at me, saying, 2 "Son of man, there were two
women, the daughters of one mother, 3 and they engaged in prostitution in Egypt in
their youth. Their breasts fell there; they were deflowered there. 4 Their names were
Oholah, the older, and Oholibah her sister. They were mine, and they gave birth to
sons and daughters. These were their names: Oholah was Samaria, and Oholibah was
Jerusalem.
5 Oholah engaged in prostitution away from me and imposed on her paramours, on
the Assyrians who were near her, 6 those who were clothed in blue, the governors and
commanders. They were all select young men, horseman riding on horses. 7 She gave
her prostitution upon them (they were all select sons of the Assyrians) and upon
everyone on whom she imposed; she was defiled by all her considerations. 8 She did not
abandon her prostitution from Egypt, for they lay with her in her youth; they
deflowered her and poured out their prostitution upon her. 9 Because of this, I delivered
her up into the hands of her paramours, into the hands of the sons of the Assyrians, on
whom she imposed. 10 They revealed her shame; they took her sons and daughters and
killed her with the sword. She became a cause of derision among women, and they
exacted vengeance on the daughters by her.
11 Her sister Oholibah saw and corrupted her imposition more than she did, and her
