he weighed me down with bronze. 8 I will indeed shout and cry out; he blocked my
prayer. 9 He built up my ways; he fenced in my paths; he disturbed me. 10 DALETH: He is
to me a bear lying in wait, a lion in hidden places. 11 He pursued one who was moving
away and stopped me; he set me up like a woman who was disfigured. 12 He bent his
bow and erected me as a target for a missile. 13 HE: He brought into my kidneys the
arrows of his quiver. 14 I became a laughing stock to all my people, their psalm the
entire day. 15 He stuffed me with bitterness; he got me drunk with gall. 16 VAV: He
expelled my teeth with gravel; he fed me with ashes. 17 He removed my soul from
peace; I forgot good things. 18 I said, "My victory and my hope from the Lord perished."
19 ZAYIN: I remembered my bitterness and gall due to my poverty and as a result of my
persecution. 20 My soul will remember and chatter about me. 21 I will arrange this for my
heart; because of this, I will wait. A 25 CHETH: The Lord is good to those who wait for
him; the soul which will seek him is good. 26 It will wait and be quiet for the salvation of
the Lord. 27 It is good for a man when he carries a yoke in his youth. 28 TETH: He will sit
alone and be silent that he carried it by himself. 30 He will give his cheek to the one who
strikes him; he will be stuffed with reproaches. 31 YOD: For the Lord will not reject
forever. 32 For the one who humbled will have compassion according to the abundance
of his mercy. 33 For he did not reply apart from his heart, and he humbled the sons of a
man. 34 KAPH: To humble under his feet all the prisoners of the earth, 35 to turn away
the judgment of a man before the face of the Most High, 36 to condemn a person when
he seeks justice, the Lord did not say. 37 LAMED: Who said this, and it happened? The
Lord did not command it. 38 Out of the mouth of the Most High, will wicked things come
as well as what is good? 39 Why should a living person complain, a man concerning his
sin? 40 MEM: Our way was searched out and examined; let us turn to the Lord. 41 Let us
take up our hearts on our hands to the Exalted One in heaven. 42 NUN: We sinned; we
became ungodly, and you were not merciful. 43 SAMECH: You covered us in fury and
drove us away. You killed; you did not spare. 44 You covered yourself with a cloud
because of a prayer, 45 in order to close my eyes and reject me; you placed us in the
midst of the peoples. 46 AYIN: All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
47 Fear and fury came into being for us, devastation and crushing. 48 My eye will bring
forth emissions of water over the crushing of the daughter of my people. 49 PE: My eye
was drowned. I will not be silent, so that I may not become calm 50 until the Lord stoops
down and sees from heaven. 51 My eye will glean my soul beyond all the daughters of
the city. 52 TSADE: My enemies kept hunting me like a sparrow for no reason; 53 they put
my life to death in a pit and placed a stone over me. 54 Water flowed over my head; I
said, "I am rejected!" 55 QOPH: I invoked your name, O Lord, out of the lowest pit.
56 You heard my voice; do not conceal your ears to my petition. 57 You came near to my
help; on the day I invoked, you said to me, "Do not be afraid." 58 RESH: O Lord, you
pleaded the cases of my soul; you redeemed my life. 59 O Lord, you saw my troubles;
you judged my justice. 60 You saw all their vengeance in all their arguments with me.
61 SHIN: You heard their reproach, all their arguments against me, 62 the lips of those
who rose up against me and their threats against me the entire day, 63 their sitting down
