God of Israel. 17 Instead of bronze I will bring you gold, instead of iron I will bring you
silver, instead of wood I will bring you bronze, and instead of stones, iron. I will give
your rulers in peace and your overseers in righteousness. 18 Wrongdoing will no longer
be heard in your land, nor will ruin or misery within your borders; instead, your walls
will be called Salvation and your gates Insignia. 19 You will not have the sun as a light
during the day, nor will the rising of the moon illuminate the night for you; instead, the
Lord will be an eternal light for you, and God will be your glory. 20 For the sun will not
set for you, and the moon will not be eclipsed for you, for the Lord will be an eternal
light for you, and the days of your mourning will be completed. 21 Your people will all be
righteous. They will inherit the land forever, preserving the planting, the works of their
hands, for glory. 22 The smallest will become thousands, and the least a great nation. I,
the Lord, will gather them at the appropriate time.
Isaiah 61
1 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he anointed me. He has sent me forth
to preach good news to the poor, to heal the broken in heart, to proclaim liberty for the
captives and restored sight for the blind, 2 to summon an acceptable year of the Lord
and a day of repayment, to comfort all who mourn, 3 so that there might be given to the
mourners of Zion glory instead of ashes, the oil of cheerfulness to the mourners, the
robe of glory instead of the spirit of indifference. They will be called generations of
righteousness, the planting of the Lord resulting in glory. 4 They will build on the eternal
deserts; they will raise up those formerly deserted. They will renew the desert cities
which have been deserted for generations. 5 Other races will arrive and shepherd your
flocks, and other tribes A will be your plowmen and vinedressers. 6 You will be called
priests of the Lord, public servants of God. You will devour the strength of nations, and
will be amazed by their wealth. 7 In this way they will inherit the land a second time,
and eternal cheerfulness will be above their heads. 8 For I am the Lord who loves
righteousness and hates plunderings as a result of injustice. I will give the results of
their hard labor to the righteous, and I will make an eternal testament for them. 9 Their
seed will be known among the nations, and their offspring in the midst of the peoples. B
Everyone who sees them will recognize them, for they are a seed blessed by God.
10 They will be cheered with cheerfulness in the Lord."
Let my soul be glad over the Lord, for he clothed me with the garment of salvation
and the tunic of cheerfulness. He put a turban on me as on a bridegroom, and adorned
me with ornaments as a bride. 11 Like the earth growing its flower and like a garden its
seeds, so the Lord will cause righteousness and gladness to spring forth before all the
nations.
