gazing until her wings were plucked, and she was lifted off the earth; she stood on
human feet, and a human heart was given to her. 5 Behold, the second beast was
similar to a bear, and it stood on one side. Three ribs were in its mouth between its
teeth, and so they said to it, "Arise; eat much flesh." 6 After this one I kept gazing, and
behold, there was another beast like a leopard, and it had on it four wings of a bird.
The beast had four heads, and authority was given to it. 7 After this one I kept gazing,
and behold, there was a fourth beast: fearful, terrible, and exceedingly strong. Its teeth
were large iron ones, eating and crushing to bits, and it trampled the remainder with its
feet. It was exceedingly different from all the beasts which were before it, and it had
ten horns. 8 I noticed its horns, and behold, another little horn ascended in the midst of
them, and three horns which were before it were rooted out from its presence. Behold,
there were eyes like the eyes of a man in this horn, and a mouth speaking great things.
9 I kept gazing until thrones were set up, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His
garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head was like clean wool. His throne
was a flame of fire; its wheels were burning fire. 10 A river of fire was flowing from
before him. Thousands of thousands performed public service for him, and myriads of
myriads stood beside him. The court sat down, and books were opened. 11 I kept gazing
then due to the sound of the great words which that horn was speaking, until the beast
was slain and destroyed, and his body was given for a burning with fire. 12 The realm of
the rest of the beasts was taken away, yet an extension of life was given to them for a
season and a season. 13 I kept gazing at the vision of the night, and behold, someone
like a son of man was coming with the clouds of heaven. He reached as far as the
Ancient of Days and in his presence introduced him. A 14 The realm, the honor, and the
kingdom were given to him; all the peoples, tribes, and languages are serving him. His
authority is an eternal authority which will not pass away, and his kingdom will not be
destroyed.
15 As for me, Daniel, my spirit shivered in my anatomy, and the visions of my head
disturbed me. 16 I approached one of those who were standing, and I sought from him
the precise account concerning all these things. He told me the precise account and
made known to me the interpretation of the words: 17 "These four great beasts are four
kingdoms which will arise on the earth, which will be taken away. 18 The holy ones of
the Most High will receive the kingdom and possess it forever and ever." 19 I sought
precisely concerning the fourth beast, for it was different from every beast, extremely
fearful. Its teeth were iron and its claws were bronze; it was eating and smashing to
bits. It trampled the remainder with its feet. 20 Concerning its ten horns which were in
its head, and the other which came up and uprooted three of the former, that horn
which had eyes and a mouth speaking great things, his appearance was greater than
the rest. 21 I kept gazing, and that horn made war with the holy ones and was strong
against them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came; he gave the judgment to the holy ones
of the Most High. The season arrived, and the holy ones possessed the kingdom. 23 He
said, "The fourth beast will be the fourth kingdom on the earth, which will surpass all
