grieving and afflicting their souls. 11 The rulers of Tanis will be fools; the counsel of the
wise counselors of the king will become foolish. How will you say to the king, "We are
sons of the intelligent, sons of the kings from of old"? 12 Where now are your wise men?
Let them declare to you and say, "What has the Lord of sabaóth counseled regarding
Egypt?" 13 The rulers of Tanis failed, and the rulers of Memphis were exalted; they will
cause Egypt to wander according to its tribes. 14 For the Lord mixed for them a spirit of
wandering, and they caused Egypt to wander with all their works, as one wanders who
is drunk and vomiting at the same time. 15 There will not be a work for the Egyptians
which will make head and tail, beginning and end.
16 On that day the Egyptians will be like women, in fear and in trembling due to the
presence of the hand of the Lord of sabaóth, which he himself will bring over them.
17 The country of the Judeans will exist as a cause of fear to the Egyptians; they will be
afraid of everyone who mentions it to them, because of the counsel which the Lord has
offered concerning it.
18 On that day there will be five cities in Egypt speaking the Canaanite language and
swearing by the name of the Lord. One city will be called the city of Hazedek. A
19 On that day there will be an altar for the Lord in the country of the Egyptians and
a pillar for the Lord at its border. 20 It will exist as a sign for the Lord forever in the
country of Egypt, for they will cry out to the Lord because of those who are oppressing
them. The Lord will send forth to them a man who will save them; he will judge and
save them. 21 The Lord will be known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians will know the
Lord on that day; they will perform sacrifices, make vows to the Lord, and repay them.
22 The Lord will attack the Egyptians with a great blow and cure them with a cure. They
will return to the Lord, and he will listen to them and cure them.
23 On that day there will be a way from Egypt to the Assyrians, and the Assyrians will
enter Egypt. The Egyptians will go to the Assyrians, and the Egyptians will serve the
Assyrians.
24 On that day Israel will be third among the Assyrians and among the Egyptians,
blessed in the land 25 which the Lord of sabaóth blessed, saying, "Blessed be my people
who are in Egypt and who are among the Assyrians, my inheritance, Israel."
Isaiah 20
1 In the year when Tartan B entered Ashdod, after he was sent forth by Arna C king of
the Assyrians, made war against Ashdod, and captured it, 2 then the Lord spoke to
Isaiah, saying, "Go and take off the sackcloth from your loins, and loosen your sandals
from your feet. Do this, going naked and barefoot." 3 The Lord said, "In the manner that
Isaiah my servant has gone naked and barefoot for three years, there will be signs and
wonders for the Egyptians and Ethiopians. 4 For in this way the king of the Assyrians will
lead the captivity of Egypt and the Ethiopians, young men and old, naked and barefoot,
