Jeremiah 25
1 The word which was directed at Jeremiah regarding all the people of Judah in the
fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, 2 which he spoke to all the people
of Judah and to those who resided in Jerusalem, saying, 3 "In the thirteenth year of
Josiah son of Amos, king of Judah, and for twenty-three years until this day, I spoke to
you; I rose early and talked. 4 I sent forth to you my slaves the prophets; I sent them
forth early. Yet you did not listen, and you did not pay attention with your ears. 5 I said,
`Let each of you turn from his evil way and from your evil habits, and you will reside on
the land which I gave to you and your fathers from eternity and for eternity. 6 Do not go
after strange gods in order to serve them and worship them, so that you do not
provoke me by the works of your hands so as to harm you.´ 7 Yet you did not listen to
me. 8 Because of this, thus says the Lord: `Since you did not believe my words, 9 behold,
I am sending forth, and I will take the family from the north and lead them against this
land, against those who reside in it, and against all the nations which are around it. I
will make them desolate, and I will give them for an obliteration, for a hissing, and for
an eternal reproach. 10 I will destroy from them the sound of joy and the sound of
cheerfulness, the sound of a bridegroom and the sound of a bride, the smell of perfume
and the light of a lamp. 11 All the land will be for an obliteration, and they will serve
among the nations for seventy years. 12 When the seventy years are fulfilled, I will take
vengeance on that nation," says the Lord, "and I will place them into an eternal
obliteration. 13 I will bring over that land all my words which I spoke against it, all the
things which have been written in this scroll."
14 The things which Jeremiah prophesied against the nations of Elam. A 15 Thus says
the Lord: "Let the bow of Elam, the beginning of their dynasty, be broken. 16 I will bring
over Elam the four winds from the four corners of heaven, and I will disperse them in
all these winds. There will not be a nation in which those driven out from Elam will not
be present. 17 I will terrify them before their enemies who are seeking their souls. I will
bring wicked things over them according to the wrath of my fury, and I will send forth
my sword after them until it disposes of them. 18 I will place my throne in Elam, and I
will send forth kings and great men from there. 19 It will be at the end of days that I will
return the captivity of Elam," says the Lord.
20 In the beginning of the reigning by Zedekiah the king, this word was directed
concerning Elam.
Jeremiah 26 B
2 For Egypt, regarding the force of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, who was by the river
Euphrates in Carchemish, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked in the fourth
year of Jehoiakim king of Judah.
