darkness, and your darkness will be like noon. 11 Your God will be with you continually,
and you will be satisfied according to what your soul covets. Your bones will become
fat, and they will be like a well-watered garden and like a fountain from which water
has not failed. A 12 Your eternal deserts will be built up, and your foundations will be
eternal for generations of generations. You will be called a repairer of breaches, and
you will bring an end to the paths between.
13 If you turn your foot back due to the sabbaths, so as not to perform your own
desires on the holy day, you will call the sabbaths delights, holy to your God; you will
not lift up your foot for work nor speak a word in anger out of your mouth. 14 You will
trust in the Lord, and he will bring you up to the good things of the land and feed you
with the inheritance of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken these
things."
Isaiah 59
1 Is the hand of the Lord not strong to save? Or did he disable his ear so as not to
listen? 2 On the contrary, your sinful acts set you apart from God, and on account of
your sins he turned his face away from you so as not to show mercy. 3 For your hands
have been defiled by blood and your fingers with sins; your lips spoke lawlessness and
your tongues meditate on unrighteousness. 4 No one speaks righteous things, neither is
there true judgment; they trust in vanities and speak empty things, for they conceive
trouble and give birth to lawlessness. 5 They hatched the eggs of asps and are weaving
a spider's web. The one who is about to eat their eggs cracked an unfertilized one and
found a cobra even in it. 6 Their web will not become a garment, nor will they be clothed
by their works, for their works are works of lawlessness. 7 Their feet run to evil; they are
swift to shed blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of murder; B ruin and misery are in
their ways. 8 They are not acquainted with the way of peace, and there is no justice in
their ways, for their paths by which they travel are crooked, and they are not
acquainted with peace.
9 Because of this, justice departed from them, and righteousness will not overtake
them. While they waited for light, darkness came to them; while they waited for
brightness, they walked in the dead of night. 10 They will feel for a wall like blind men,
and will feel for it as if they had no eyes. They will fall at noon as at midnight; they will
groan like the dying. 11 They will go together like a bear and a dove. We waited for
justice, and there is none; salvation stood far apart from us. 12 For our lawlessness is
great before you, and our sins rose up against us. For our lawless acts are in us, and
we knew our unrighteous acts. 13 We became ungodly, lied, and rebelled against our
God; we spoke unrighteous things and were distrustful; we conceived and meditated on
unrighteous words from our hearts. 14 We turned back justice, and righteousness stood
far apart, for the truth is consumed in their ways, and they could not pass through what
is straight. 15 Truth was taken away, and they turned their minds from understanding.
