Teman, and the Holy One from the dark shadowy Mount Paran. A (Interlude)
His virtue covered the heavens, and the earth is full of his praise; 4 his brightness will
be like light. There were horns in his hands, and he caused a mighty loving of his
strength. 5 The word will go before his face, and in his footsteps it will come out into the
plains. B 6 He stood, and the earth shook; he stared, and the nations melted away. The
mountains were crushed with violence; the eternal hills melted. 7 I looked at his eternal
courses instead of troubles. The tents of the Ethiopians will be dismayed, as will the
tents of the land of Midian. 8 You didn't become wrathful at the rivers, did you, O Lord?
Was your anger at the rivers, or your rage at the sea? For you will mount on your
horses, and your cavalry is salvation. 9 "You will stretch your bow against the scepters,"
says the Lord. (Interlude)
The land of rivers will burst forth. 10 Peoples will see you and be in pain, as you
disperse the waters of your course. The abyss issued its sound, the height of its
imagination. 11 The sun was exalted, and the moon stood still in its position. Your darts
will go forth into the light, into the brightness of the gleaming of your weapons. 12 You
will diminish the land with threatening, and with anger you will bring down nations.
13 You came out for the salvation of your people, to save your Christs. C You brought
death on the heads of the lawless; you erected bindings up to the neck. (Interlude)
14 You cut off the heads of potentates with ecstasy. They will be shaken at it; they
will break their bridles, like a poor man eating secretly. 15 You caused your horses to
enter the sea and disturb much water. 16 I watched, and my belly was dismayed at the
sound of the prayer of my lips. Trembling entered into my bones, and my posture was
disturbed from inside me. I will rest on the day of oppression, to ascend to the people
of my sojourning. 17 For the fig tree will bear no fruit, and there will be no produce on
the vines. The work of the olive will fail, and the fields will produce no food. The sheep
abandoned the pasture, and there are no cattle at the mangers. D 18 I will be glad in the
Lord; I will rejoice over God my savior. 19 The Lord God is my power, and he will array
my feet in completion. He mounts me on the high places to conquer by his song.
