Acronym List. Abbreviations or words formed with representative letters of other words.
Short forms that are usually related to utility processes or short terms related to longer
concepts. Can be organization-specific and geographically driven.
Bibliography. An annotated presentation of existing resources to facilitate easy access to
research information to all stakeholders. Arranged alphabetically, chronologically and/or in
classifications related to research. Usually updated annually.
Glossary. An alphabetical listing of selected words relative to the drinking water industry.
Includes definitions, pronunciation, origin, and usage examples (as appropriate).
Lexicon. A dictionary that focuses on the specific language (vocabulary) related to utility
areas of concern or practice.
Resource Catalog. List of available materials in support of drinking water processes or
research. Vehicle for organizing related information. Includes abstracts written in a nontechnical
language. Uses key words as locators.
Thesaurus. A collection of concepts and terms designed to facilitate interdisciplinary
dialogue; for example, providing an engineering term and a similar generic term that a nonengineer
might apply to the same concept. A thesaurus can also functions as a vocabulary
aid for database searches.
