Case Studies
Practices and processes to support implementation of
knowledge management in Drinking Water Utilities. Each tool
can be considered separately as an initiative or a set of tools
can be used in support of a knowledge management strategy.
These tools can also support other Utility strategies. For ease
of use, each tool is rated in terms of level of effort, size of utility
and scope of work.
A resource that lists a variety of concepts and approaches that
can support the application of knowledge management
practices in Drinking Water Utilities.
Short studies contributed by Drinking Water Utilities nationwide
for WaterRF Project 4003. These Project Studies are examples
of knowledge management initiatives that are either in the
process of implementation or have been applied. There are 34
Project Studies. [NOTE: Project Studies appear in blue
throughout the Toolkit.]
Research documents that address specific issues in Drinking
Water Utilities related to knowledge management and
knowledge mobilization. 4003 White Papers describe internal
and external barriers, critical success factors, successful
initiatives and opportunities. Detail Papers expand concepts
introduced in the toolkit. All White Papers and Detail Papers
are linked in the toolkit where they are applicable.
Knowledge management strategies and initiatives occurring in
organizations external to the Drinking Water Utility sector.
These provide real-life implementation examples of strategies
and initiatives applied in the public, private and not-for-profit
sectors. [NOTE: Case Examples appear in blue throughout the
Toolkit.]
Includes several organizations well-known for their successful
implementation of knowledge management; specifically, the
U.S. Department of Navy (DON) and the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Both of
these organizations are MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge
Enterprise) award winners. This section also includes a
Learn@WELL (Water and Environmental Health in Developing
Countries) study and a case study on Integrating
Technological Innovation and Community Engagement in
Singapore. Collectively, these studies describe technical and
