Her iki amacı gerçekleştirme adına, Arap dili, klasik
Bu çalışmada dil bilimlerine ilişkin Osmanlı medreselerinde okutulan eserler, XVIII. yüzyılın başında Devlet’in isteğiyle
kaleme alınmış Osmanlı medreselerinin resmî ders programı sayılabilecek Kevakib-i Seb‘a [telifi: 1740] adlı eser açısından
da, Kevakib-i Seb‘a’nın kaleme alındığı, Osmanlı enetelektüel tarihi açısından son derece aktif olan 18. yüzyıldaki Osmanlı
bilginlerinin Arap dili ve belağatı sahasındaki telif ve tercüme performanslarıyla denetlenecektir.
The teaching of the Arabic Language and Rhetoric in Ottoman Madrasahs according to
Kawakib-i Saba
In Ottoman Madrasahs, linguistics was thought as instrumental sciences for philosophical, religious and mathematical
sciences, they were also considered as independent ones. To serve both purposes, the Arabic language was thought
through selected books that represent their subject the best way; these books have been written in the Islamic civilizations,
and have been organized from the heritage of classical periods. This tradition has started with Davud Kayseri in the first
Madrasah in İznik; has continued through Mulla Fanari and his schools and lasted until the end of the Ottoman Empire.
This conclusion can be observed in language books which have been thought or written by Ottoman scholars throughout
the Ottoman period.
The books about linguistics that are thought in Ottoman Madrasahs can be possible to identify by the biography
of scholars, inscriptions of diplomas (îjâzet), the text-books that are available in the scientific circles, the books that have
been written commentaries or super-commentaries on. It is also possible to learn by Tartib al-ulûm, sort of treatises which
give inventory of the books were thought in the Ottoman madrasahs. In this study, we will examine the books thought in
Ottoman Madrasahs about linguistics in terms of the book named Kawakib-i Saba. This book was written in the first half
of the 18 th century, upon the demand of France Government, considered as the official curriculum of Ottoman Madrasahs.
Also, in this study we will analyze the education given about morphology, syntax and rhetoric. The result of this analysis
will be compared to the previous curriculums; and then the historical process of the Arabic language and rhetoric teaching
in Ottoman Madrasahs will be determined. The results that come up will be compared to the books and translations of
Ottoman scholars that lived the 18 th century when Kawakib-i Saba was written.
