A Forgotten Anti-Turkish Project of Ethnic Cleansing in the First Half of XVII th Century
The archive of Simancas in Spain, Greek Section, keeps records of a revolt project against Ottoman rule to open
the way for a Spanish invasion. The purpose of this communication is mainly to show Greek-Spanish intent aimed at implementing
a real ethnic cleansing against the Turkish territory, both military and civilian; secondly it want to expose the tools
used to break the political and ideological loyalty to the Ottoman Empire that was peculiar to the majority of 17 th century
Greek elites and merchant class.
