304 Nidification des cigognes en Alsace Nestbau der Störche im Elsass / Nesting of storks in Alsace La cigogne blanche, oiseau symbole de l’Alsace par excellence, a de tout temps niché dans notre région. Elle a pourtant bien failli disparaître. De 148 couples en 1960, la population de cigognes alsaciennes est passée à 9 couples en 1974. En effet trop peu de cigognes reviennent de migration. Des centres de réintroduction ont été mis en place dans les années 80, par l’APRECIAL (Association de Protection et de Réintroduction des Cigognes en Alsace) et des ornithologues passionnés, soutenus par les collectivités territoriales. Ces centres ont pour but la sédentarisation de couples de reproducteurs, permettant de redynamiser la population de cigognes. Les jeunes issus des oiseaux sédentaires, migrent normalement. Aujourd’hui, grâce à cette technique et au soutien des collectivités locales et territoriales, nous pouvons à nouveau observer plus de 500 couples de cigognes libres en Alsace. La cigogne est un échassier de la famille des ciconiidés qui vit en colonies. C’est un carnivore qui se nourrit de petites proies (mulots, vers, grenouilles…) qu’elle capture dans les prés. Oiseau migrateur, elle arrive dans notre région en mars-avril pour se reproduire. Après plusieurs accouplements successifs et un mois de couvaison, jusqu’à 4 à 5 jeunes naîtront. Les cigogneaux s’envoleront au bout de 10 semaines. Ils rejoindront le nid chaque soir, jusqu’au départ en migration, qui s’échelonne de début août à fin septembre. Durant cette période, il n’est pas rare de voir des regroupements spectaculaires de plusieurs dizaines de cigognes dans les prés, sur des toits de maisons. Trotzdem wäre er beinahe verschwunden. 1960 hat sich die Anzahl der elsässischen Störche von 148 Paaren auf 9 Paare im Jahre 1974 verringert. Freilich kommen im Frühjahr zu wenig Störche aus dem Süden zurück. So wurden in den 80ziger Jahren von der APRECIAL (Verein für den Schutz und die Wiedereinführung von Störchen im Elsaß) Zentren für ihre Wiederansiedelung ins Leben gerufen und passionierte Ornithologen eingesetzt, die bei den Gebietskörperschaften Unterstützung finden. Diese Zentren sollen paarungsfähige Exemplare sesshaft machen, um den Storchenbestand zu erhöhen. Normalerweise ziehen die Jungstörche sesshaft gemachter Vögel ab. Dank dieser Technik und der Unterstützung der Gebietskörpenschaften und Gemeinden, können wir heute im Elsass wieder mehr als 500 frei lebende Storchenpaare zählen. Der Storch ist ein Stelzvogel der Familie der Ciconidae, die in Gruppen leben. Es ist ein Fleisch fressender Vogel. Er ernährt sich von kleinen Beutetieren, die er auf der Wiese fängt: Feldmäuse, Würmer, Frösche usw. Der Storch ist ein Zugvogel und kommt im März / April in unsere Gegend, um sich fortzupflanzen. Nach mehreren Paarungen und einem Monat Brutzeit kommen bis zu 4 oder 5 Jungtiere auf die Welt. Die jungen Störche werden nach 10 Wochen flügge. Sie kehren jeden Abend zum Nest zurück bis sie sich zum Abflug ins Überwinterungsgebiet vorbereiten, was sich von Anfang August bis Ende September hinziehen kann. Während dieses Zeitraums sieht man nicht selten Gruppierungen von mehreren Dutzend Störchen auf den Wiesen und auf Häuserdächern, was sehr beeindruckend ist. Reintroduction centres were set up in the eighties by APRECIAL (Association for the Protection and Reintroduction of Storks in Alsace) and by dedicated ornithologists, supported by the local authorities. These centres worked to stabilise the presence of breeding couples, in order to increase the stork population. The young birds born of the sedentary storks migrate normally. Today, thanks to this technique and the support of local and regional authorities, we may once again observe more than 500 pairs of wild storks in Alsace. The stork is a wading bird and is part of the family of ciconiides which lives in colonies. It is a carnivore which feeds on small prey (mice, worms, frogs, etc. ) that it captures in the fields. A migrating bird, the stork arrives in our region in March-April to breed. After several successive couplings and a month of gestation, up to 4-5 young are born. The storks begin to fly after 10 weeks. They return to the nest each evening until migration, which starts from the beginning of August to the end of September. During this period, it is not unusual to witness the spectacular site of several dozen storks grouping in the fields, or on the rooftops.
