2.3 CONCRETE MATERIALS
A. Portland Cement: ASTM C 150, Type I or II, low alkali. Set retarding admixture shall be added in hot
weather, if required. Air entraining admixture shall be added at the mixer. If for any reason, cement
becomes partially set or contains lumps of caked cement, if shall be rejected. Cement salvaged from
discarded or used bags shall not be used.
1. Fly Ash: ASTM C 618, with the exception of loss of ignition, where the maximum should be less
than 6%. The weight of the fly ash in the mix shall note exceed 15% of the total added weight of
the fly ask and Portland Cement as per the following formula: fly ash (fly ash and cement less than
or equal to 15%.
B. Coarse Aggregate: ASTM C 33, from a single source. Percentage of wear shall be nor more than 40
when tested in accordance with ASTM C131 for aggregate less than 1-1/2” and ASTM C535 for
aggregates less than ¾”. Gradation shall be a blend of the two sizes listed in Table 1:

D. Fine Aggregate: ASTM C 33, from a single source. Gradation shall meet the requirements of Table 2.
E. Water: ASTM C 94.

F. Admixtures: Certified by manufacturer to contain not more than 0.1 percent water-soluble chloride ions by
mass of cement and to be compatible with other admixtures, as follows:
