2.4 LIQUID-FILLED TRANSFORMER SECTIONS
A. Description: Liquid-filled, two-winding, secondary unit substation transformer complying with
IEEE C57.12.00 “Standard General Requirements for Liquid-Immersed Distribution, Power, and Regulating
Transformers” and UL 1062 “Unit Substations”.
B. KVA Rating: 3000 KVA.
C. Voltage: Delta - wye configuration. Input – 12KV; Output – 480/277V, three phase, four wire. (Supplier to
confirm primary voltage of incoming electrical service prior to release of order.)
D. Insulating Liquid: Less flammable, edible-seed-oil based, and listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing
Laboratory acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction as complying with California Electrical Code
requirements for fire point of not less than 300 deg C when tested according to ASTM D 92 “Standard Test
Method for Flash and Fire Points by Cleveland Open Cup Method”. Liquid shall be readily and completely
biodegradable per EPA OPPTS 835.3100 “Aerobic Aquatic Biodegradation” and nontoxic. The fluid shall be
non-bioaccumulating. The fluid shall be Factory Mutual Approved and shall be a UL Classified Transformer
Fluid, Envirotemp FR3 or approved equal.
E. Insulation Temperature Rise: 65 deg C when operated at rated kVA output in a 40 deg C ambient
temperature.
F. Basic Impulse Level: 95 kV.
G. Full-Capacity Voltage Taps: Four nominal 2.5% taps, two above and two below rated primary voltage; with
externally operable tap changer for de-energized use and with position indicator and padlock hasp.
H. Cooling System: Liquid cooled
I. Impedance: 5.75% percent.
J. Copper bus connections for connection to incoming primary switch and secondary distribution section.
K. Accessories: Grounding pads, lifting lugs, and provisions for jacking under base. Transformers shall have
a steel base and frame allowing use of pipe rollers in any direction, and an insulated, low-voltage, neutral
bushing with removable ground strap. Include the following additional accessories:
1. Liquid-level gage.
2. Pressure-vacuum gage.
3. Liquid temperature indicator.
4. Drain and filter valves.
5. Pressure relief device.
