16031 – ELECTRICAL PROTECTIVE DEVICE COORDINATION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes computer-based, fault-current and over-current protective device
coordination studies, and the setting of these devices. The studies shall demonstrate adequate
short-circuit interrupting and withstand capability as well as proper coordination of protective
devices in order to protect equipment and conductors against fault currents and sustained overload
conditions.
B. The study shall be comprehensive and shall include all protective devices starting with the 12KV
portion of the new unit substation in the new Sort Building and continuing down through all
components of the low voltage (less than 600V) distribution systems.
1.2 RELATED WORK
A. The Electrical Protective Device Coordination Study for the Main 12KV Distribution Switchgear in
the generator building is being supplied under the scope of work of the separate contract for the
Security Screening Building / Electrical Infrastructure / Metroplex Renovations. That switchgear
feeds the new unit substation in the new Sort Building.
1.3 REFERENCE STANDARDS
A. IEEE 242 - Recommended Practice for Protection and Coordination of Industrial and Commercial
Power Systems.
B. IEEE 399 - IEEE Recommended Practice for Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Analysis.
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For computer software program to be used for studies.
B. Product Certificates: For coordination-study and fault-current-study computer software programs,
certifying compliance with IEEE 399.
C. Other Action Submittals:
1. Coordination-study input data, including completed computer program input data sheets.
2. Coordination-study report.
3. Equipment evaluation report.
4. Device setting report.
D. Operation and Maintenance Data:
