The requirements of Section 15010 shall apply to this Section, except as herein modified. B. This Section describes the installation of the Pipe and Valve Identification System. 1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Refer to Specification Section 15010, GENERAL PROVISIONS - MECHANICAL, paragraph “CODES AND STANDARDS”. 1.3 INDEX OF SPECIFIED PRODUCTS AND SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS A. The following is a list of Products specified within this Section. Provide submittals to the Engineer for review in accordance with requirements established within Section 01300 for only those Products indicated. Refer to Section 15010, GENERAL PROVISIONS – MECHANICAL PART 2 – PRODUCTS 2.1 PIPE IDENTIFICATION MARKERS A. Pipe identification markers shall be semi-rigid plastic type (not pressure sensitive). Direction of flow arrows shall be included on each marker. Color coded background, color legend in relation to background color, legend letter size, and marker length shall be in accordance with ANSI A13.1 and OSHA requirements. B. Valve identification tags shall be 19 gauge 1-1/2” diameter polished brass tags with distinguishing numbers and letters. Each tag shall designate the appropriate service with ¼” stamped black filled letters and the appropriate valve number with ½” stamped black filled numbers. B. Proposed service designation abbreviations and valve numbers shall be integrated into the existing facility designation system and forwarded to the Owner for review. C. Valve identification tags shall be Style 250-BL as manufactured by Seton or similar by Marking Services Inc. PART 3 – EXECUTION 3.1 PIPE IDENTIFICATION MARKERS A. Piping installed under this Division, including pipe installed above ceilings, shall be identified as to service and flow direction. B. Pipe identification markers shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Markers shall be located as follows: Adjacent to each valve and fittings. At each branch and riser takeoff. At each pipe penetration through wall, floor or ceiling. At each pipe penetration to underground. At 25 foot (minimum) intervals on all piping. 3.2 VALVE IDENTIFICATION TAGS A. Valves installed under this Division shall be identified with tags indicating service and valve number. Valve identification tags shall be securely fastened to all valves by means of brass “S” hooks. Cold/hot water valves and fire alarm devices located above a ceiling shall be noted with plastic laminate label with blue circle sticker dot on ceiling grid below valve. Note service or device on label. 3.3 VALVE CHARTS A. Charts of valves shall be furnished by the Contractor. These charts shall include service designation, valve identification number, locations, and purpose. Where it is necessary to operate more than one valve in order to control a section of the piping, this fact and the identification number(s) of the other valve(s) shall be noted on the chart. Typewritten copies of valve charts shall be located in each operating manual. In addition, provide typewritten valve chart mounted in frame with clear acrylic glazing.
